Independent FIDE Academies

Post by Michael Flatt » Sun Nov 06, 2016 9:18 am

A question arose in another thread regarding the ECF's policy towards independent FIDE Academies, which I believe deserves its own thread.

Also, the ECF is strongly resisting the creation of independently run FIDE Academies in England.
Untrue. We do though expect them to conform to commonly accepted financial and safeguarding standards.

Regardless of who was CEO, it was ECF policy. I am glad to hear that the policy has changed.

Can anyone actually say how many independently run FIDE Academies have been approved or are having their application supported by the ECF?

And how many have been opposed?

I assume from this exchange that there is a defined procedure through which aspiring FIDE Acadamies can request ECF endorsement of their application to FIDE.

So, how does one make an application to ECF for recognition as a FIDE Academy and how long does it take to get a decision ?

Should an application fail, is there an Appeal procedure and how long does that take?

Both of these started in 11/2014

There's one in Belfast started 9/2015
Logic NI Ireland Belfast Kecskemeti Balazs [email protected]

One in Durham started the same month
Enhance Institute of Chess Excellence England Durham Prasath Malola [email protected]

and that's it. Just 49 in the world, 3 in England.

That's interesting I hadn't heard of the Durham Academy, Enhance Institute of Chess Excellence.

I couldn't find a website for the Academy itself, but its founder, Malola Prasath, has an interesting profile on LinkedIn: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/mr-malola-pr ... am-51590b8

The Academy offers a particular specialism: children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
