Junior 4NCL 2016/2017

Post by Mike Truran » Sat Jan 21, 2017 11:45 am

The J4NCL's second weekend of the 2016/2017 season is currently taking place at St John's Hotel Solihull.

39 teams have entered - a record number since the J4NCL was restructured a few years back, and justifying the investment we've made in engaging three coaches rather than the usual two.

Full results for the weekend are now available on the 4NCL website. Congratulations to Midland Monarchs South (Division 1) and Leicester Reds (Division 2)!

Good weekend enjoyed by the Watford contingent. For those thinking about entering the April J4NCL weekend at the same venue, it's a decent hotel with helpful staff - recommended. Plenty of room for all and, I'm told by our youngsters, the best swimming pool of any J4NCL venue to date. Only small issue was that hotel management seem to have under-estimated numbers (perhaps because of the record entry to which Mike refers) with the result that the hotel was somewhat under-staffed. Also thanks to the arbiting team for running things smoothly.

To be fair, the hotel weren't the only people who underestimated numbers and were somewhat under-staffed.

But I'm glad it apparently didn't come across that way!

I'm afraid I was rather pre-occuped with the County Championship Finals, the Gigafinals, the British Championships, just for the last month or so.

No intention of embarrassing anyone - but, quite apart from team selection issues, we estimate that 4NCL and J4NCL are together likely to account for around 20% of club expenditure. Our club committee meets early August when it will make recommendations to September's AGM as to subscription levels, when a question mark over the J4NCL costs wouldn't exactly help matters. I imagine one or two other clubs/teams are in broadly similar positions.
