UKCC Strat 2009 - Felix Ynojosa

Post by Neill Cooper » Sun Aug 23, 2009 8:09 pm

Congratulations to Felix Ynojosa on winning this year's UKCC Terafinal.
Perhaps he will try to win it more times that Lorin D'Costa?

Dani and Kaiser Malik did really well in the Challengers given their choice of opening as black: 1. e4 Nf6 2. e5 Ng8 (!). I think Kaiser was 2/3 with it (and was winning the game he lost, he just blundered a Knight), and Dani was 1.5/2 with it.

I have a booklet review of the Brooklyn Defence entitled "Loss of Time and Space : The Wonderful World of the Brooklyn Defence", 2003, 31 pages, written by a forum member. :D

I believe that Tom Chivers has used the Brooklyn Defence.

It is claimed that a former World Champion used it also :)

You are referring to Boleslavski, I - Petrosian, TV, Secret Moscow Training Match, 1966, 1-0, 47 moves.

Congratulations to the local lad Richard Weaving (he attends Warwick School where the Terafinal was held) who, needing a win, played Felix in the final round and drew after puting Felix under some pressure and missing a tricky chance for a serious advantage. Perhaps this was a triumph for the new gradings as Felix is second in the junior list at 224 and Richard, at 228, is top of the junior rapidplay list.

This is the first year we are thinking about entering people - when does the new registration form normally come up? Is it happening in 2010?

Ta,
Mike

This is the website for it. Entry forms will probably be available early in the New Year.

You can run the 7-round Swiss (the first stage) whenever you like until about March next year (providing you have equipment). If not, when you enter, you'll be sent equipment to do the Swiss (pairing cards, a scoreboard), as well as various prizes. After a while, you'll be sent entry forms for the Megafinal, to give to the people who qualify from the Swiss.
