Announcement: Jack Rudd's health

Post by IM Jack Rudd » Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:45 am

My oversleeping on Sunday, which led to my turning up to my game 20 minutes late, has acted as a wake-up call. I now have to admit to myself and the chess world that I am suffering from depression; in addition to this, my epilepsy is showing no signs of going away.

My experience with depression previously has let me know that it seriously knackers my creative abilities and my long-term organizational skills, and with this in mind, I don't think I can continue to do the following:
  • Match reports for the 4NCL
  • Organizing the County Championships (this is unrelated to the email I got this evening; I had already decided to write this post before that)
Any volunteers to take over either of those duties will be gratefully welcomed.

I can, however, function to the extent of being able to get to tournaments and do things on-site, which means I will honour the commitments I have made in the following categories:
  • Game-inputting for the 4NCL, the South Wales International and the British
  • Arbiting at the forthcoming e2e4.org.uk events and the BUCA championships
  • Playing in a number of events
I apologise in advance to anyone for any inconvenience this may cause.

Hi Jack

Ill help with the reports for remainder of the season if Claire is happy to edit them down for me.

Ill even annotate some games/get rendle to do one around the house.

Have you tried bit of exercise, sounds ludicrous but i find it helps me in tough times.

Kind regards

Ben

Sorry to hear that Jack. You've been an invaluable support to the 4NCL with your reports and game input. Get well soon!

Ditto. Don't feel bad about limiting your commitments - health always comes first.

Jack you do not need to apologise to anyone, you have done a fantastic job at 4NCL and all your other chess activities. Health and your well being come first, people will understand, you need to be a bit selfish for a while, do what you can and perhaps more importantly do what you want and enjoy.

Sincere best wishes

Gill & Peter T

I have made it clear that I am doing this only in an acting capacity, until Jack returns to full health.
