A quick glance through the game suggests that "I was winning" is probably where you went wrong. That is to say, you tried too hard to win a position that didn't justify your evaluation.

The guy saidmy 20.Be3 was a blunder. He had the two Bishops but I had the centre blocked

+1 and if we add the bishop pair I believe white have more than enough resources to save the day.

about the first game as one of the guys added-too many pawns around the white king + the bishop pair I believe is more than enough to save the day for white.

Here I seem to have mistakenly gone for the b2-pawn, losing a castle pawn:

Any comment?

The temporary pawn sac. 13... b5... looks OK since you get it back by 15... Rxe4.

Although you lose a "castle pawn" to 18.Bxh6, you get a pawn back by 18... Rxb2.

You started to go wrong with 22... Bd7?

Perhaps, instead, 22... Nh7!? driving the WQ away is advisable since after 23.Nh4, compounding the neglect of your K-side with 23... a5? left you vulnerable to a direct attack on your K by 24.Bxg6!, instead of Bf5 as played by W.

Also in this game you failed to evaluate positions realistically -

You probably thought you were winning - because you managed to win an exchange for the loss of only one pawn rather than the customary two pawns, after...

13.Nh4?! (Nbd2 is usual and better as it protects the important pawn on e4.)
13... Nxe4!? (Re8 14.Nf5 Bf8 is solid for Black)
14.Ng6?! (Nf5!? starts K-side attack for the pawn, if Na5? 15.Bc2 Nf6 16.Qd3 Kh8 17.Qg3 Ne8 18.dxe5...)
14... Na5!
15.Nxf8 Nxb3 (W's missing KB plus KP are worth more than B's missing KR in this position.)
16.axb3 Bxf8-/+ (with the two bishops and a pawn Black has more than full compensation for the exchange)

If in addition to translating Seirawan's Play Winning Chess you had read it and understood how to apply it to your own games then you'd have known that you stood worse after Black's 16th move. Others have written similar comments, above.)

Why?
I tried to close the position sothat the two Bishops become impotent

You should understand that it was your two rooks that were impotent after move 16.

By move 39 you admitted it when you played RxN?? After that you may as well have resigned.

Yeah the pawn structure turned out to be in his favour. Possibly tking with the rook was better. But it has nothing to do with the opening

Yeah the pawn structure turned out to be in his favour.
Precisely, pawn structure is one of Seirawan's "four major principles" in Play Winning Chess!
Possibly tking with the rook was better.
Exactly what do you mean, which move are you referring to, please?
But it has nothing to do with the opening
On the contrary, it has everything to do with the opening.

I explained that your 13.Nh4 was an inferior move and that 13.Nbd2 was better.

Also, I said that 14.Ng6 was inferior to 14.Nf5 because a K-side attack by W was stronger than winning the exchange.

By move 16... Bxf8, Black had better pieces (force), development (time) and better pawn structure straight from the opening.

That's 3 out of 4 of Seirawan's major principles that you stood worse in after only 16 moves.

(Space is the other one and you didn't stand any better than Black in that department.)

You need to stop dreaming and get real - Play Winning Chess is your chosen road to reality so you should try to follow it.

As you won both of these games, any mistakes can't have been very serious ! It looks like the opponents made the mistakes.
