I see how you found it Richard - very clever! And yes - ouch to my grade!

Thanks, Alan. Hovering doesn't seem to work on my Mac, but here's the link to download the file: http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/files/grades201607.csv

Hours (or minutes) of fun with a spreadsheet. Sorting by the most active players seems to suggest, as almost always, that playing a lot doesn't improve your grade, with the possible exception of under 18s. The greatest improvement by an adult over 150 appears to be a well known arbiter, but his "old" grade was well below his career average.

They might yet confound us, with the released file just being a "draft" for review purposes.

Some of us were very clear the well known arbiter was going to be no longer eligible for the U160 team but at 179 eligible for U180 & open team if he is able to play. Congratulations David & thanks to Roger for pointing this out. July has a chance for a change & August update is official list.

Thanks to Richard for a nice puzzler to start the w/e with.

Thank you both.

I'm staggered and I shall have to check my details carefully. Whether my new found status as "most improved player" survives the August revision remains to be seen.

If it does, it will be something of a shock going from Board 3 or 4 of the Surrey U160 team to Board 1 or 2 of the Surrey U180 team.

Nick, thank you for inviting me to play for the U160 team last season.

Yes, he’s been a bit slack this year.

Absolutely. It is a major achievement to have the list out before the start of the British Championships despite their early start. Congratulations and thanks to all.

I wouldn't expect a fanfare.

However, I do find it rather bizarre that the chosen method of publication was to upload the list but give no indication that that had been done. Kudos to Richard Bates and anyone else who found the list by guessing the URI successfully.

I would have expected there to be announcements at http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/new/menu.php and at http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/new/downloads.php at the time of publication.

I appreciate that both are there now. There is a small glitch; the date at the first link needs to be corrected from "dd.07.2017".

The above said, I realise that priority was given to publishing the list at the earliest possible moment.

A little triumph for the grading system in the British U8 at Bournemouth this afternoon.

In a record field of 70 children, the pairings for round 4 show the top four boards as the Nos 1-8 seeds, seven 3/3 and one 2.5.
