Is CLM 3 software an anglicised version of the Joomla[1] component being developed in Germany[2,3]?

Also, wouldn't it be better to make it available as a plugin that could be uploaded directly by the Update Manager of an existing Joomla website?

Incidentally, the German website identifies a large number of developers[4] and offers a forum and assistance for those making use of it.
Unfortunately, this help is currently only available in German.

@ Michael Flatt: Yes, the CLM is developed in Germany and is a great success. In the last year we (the german developer team and myself) adjusted the CLM 3 to the english requirements, translated everything and now the english version is part of the CLM-project, i.e. that the engish version will benefit from every update.
- The CLM 3 extention is now available for download; it can be installed using the Joomla installation routine
- We are working on english howtos for the CLM, an english forum will be available later; additionally the project website will be available in english later. Sorry for the delay, we all are volunteers and our time is limited.
- everyone is invited to contribute to develop the CLM 3 further
- If you are interested in using the CLM 3, please feel free to contact me.

@ Carl Hibbard: No-one of us gets any money, the CLM 3 is and remains free and open source. We are chess enthusiasts and we are proud of our product. I assume that this may be of interest for all who are looking for such a software.

CLM 3 looks to be a useful and capable program. I have sent a pm to learn how to proceed after installing it on my Joomla website.

Anyone running Windows 10 might run into some difficulty when installing and running Wampserver[1] due to a missing file (vruntime140.dll) and a conflict over the assignment of port 80. The solution is available on a helpful YouTube video[2]. It has no commentary, but it is simple to follow the actions - it worked on my laptop.

I have adopted Chess League Manager (CLM) to administer the SCCU County Championship (aka SCCU Inter-County League) for season 2016/2017. See website: http://www.sccu-chess.com

Having already had experience of Joomla! I had no difficulty in setting the leagues for the new season.

The CLM is fully compatible with the ECF grading system so that players details can be imported directly from the the ECF grading list (.csv file) and partitioned into clubs/association from which the controller and potentially match captains (I haven't yet given them the necessary privileges) can select teams for a particular match via a drop-down box.

A results file (in XML format) can be generated for submission to the ECF for grading. The file can be viewed and edited in a spreadsheet program (Excel, OpenOffice, LibreOffice) or even re-formatted into a standard ECF submission file (text format).

Being Open Source the code is fully accessible and customisable, although some knowledge of Joomla, php and MySql would be necessary to do so.

How does this relate to the ECF project and procurement of software?

Is this just an alternative option?

I can't comment on the ECF project since I haven't seen any reports of its progress.

The CLM, however, is in widespread use in Germany where it was created and continues to be developed by volunteer chess playing Joomla developers. The OP, Martin Blasczyk, has customised the software for use in England and the ECF grading system. His code is being integrated into the source code by the German developers.

For any League Organisers looking to adopt League Management software the Joomla CLM does provide a ready made solution.

It works and is available now.

Dear Paul, dear Michael, dear all,

As I am addapted the CLM 3 in very close contact to the CLM-developer-team, the CLM 3 for England became part of the whole CLM-project. This implies that all CLM-users in England will benefit of ever uptate of the CLM. Additionally the CLM devepoler team will support every user of the CLM 3 in England too and for free.

The CLM is an ongoing project and will be updated regularly and it will be developed further. Today the CLM 3 is one of the most advanced and most powerful Chess League Management Software Solutions available. One reason for this is that is in "combat" in Germany with another (commercial) Chess League Management Software Solution (http://www.portal64.de/impressum/). This is a challenge for the CLM developer team and they responded: "We will be the best". No question, they keep their promise.

Everyone is welcome to use the CLM 3 for free. You can download the CLM 3 for England here https://clm3.merseysidechess.org.uk/ind ... omla-clm-3. If you have any questions or if you need help, please feel free to comtact me (e-mail: [email protected]). Thank you.

If you want to join the CLM developer team, please contact Klaus Bärthel (e-mail: [email protected]) Thank you.

Regards,

Martin

Dear Paul,

I can not say anything about the ECF project, because I don't know anything about it. The ECF may deliver some kind of Chess League Management Software next year (in 2017), but who knows...

The CLM 3 is now ready to use. So why wait for something nobody knows anything about? The CLM 3 is available for free and ready for England now.

Regards,

Martin

The ECF have selected an existing package for enhanced development. That existing package, written by Malcolm Peacock of Preston Chess Club, has been in use for several years and is used by both the leagues in which I play and by several others. Malcolm has made it clear that leagues wishing to adopt it are already welcome to do so. Its public face can be seen here: http://sc.popmalc.org.uk/fylde. Login is only required for those with submission rights: in the leagues in which I play it is customary for the home team captain to submit match results and this shares the burden of maintainence very effectively. If for some reason the home captain cannot or does not do it then someone else can easily step in.

This is a very useful post for those of us interested in what the ECF is doing on this.

When I was looking for an LMS package the only non-fee paying option which advertised itself was the Joomla based chess League Manager which originates in Germany and introduced into the English speaking community by Martin. This is the solution I have adopted.

The Malcolm Peacock LMS seems to be Drupal based. At least, the example website on which it is implement is a Drupal site.

To me the two solutions seem very similar - not unnatural since they both aim to do the same job.

The strength of the Joomla solution is that it is an Open Source Project created and run entirely by a group of volunteer programmers. It has a large user base and is readily customisable. It is entirely free and is now compatible with the ECF grading system.

Despite the growing importance of web based technologies the ECF has no IT manager and no IT steering committee.
