Re: Media comments on chess
"So i am still looking fo a real-life situation where zugswang occurs. Any suggestions?"
I was idly watching "Motorway Cops" or some such where a camera crew follows them about and you get horrified by what morons do on the road. There was one this morning where someone had crashed on their own and overturned on the motorway. One HGV was following and swerved violently to avoid the wreckage, a second HGV realised he could not swerve to the right as there was another vehicle there, so he stood on the brakes and ploughed into the wreckage. Could that be regarded as Zugswang? (Nobody died.)

Only if the third option existed of stopping instantaneously, which it didn't.Kevin Thurlow wrote:Could that be regarded as Zugswang? (Nobody died.)

LOL, recent posts suggest the quiz question, "How many z's in the word 'zugzwang'?"

Re: Media comments on chess
Don't worry about it Kevin, every time I write a post I'm in spelling zugzwang.
No matter what how I arrange the letters it will be wrong.
(Some days I think my whole life has been one long Zugzwang.)

LOOK AWAY if you don't want to know Danny's result.
He won £4000 which he described as a lot of money for him. My sister, Rose, said he made a most pculiar tactical decision.

Was that a repeat of the 2013 show or another appearance? http://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=5933Stewart Reuben wrote:LOOK AWAY if you don't want to know Danny's result.

Reading about it, this was a repeat. He surely couldn't again have gone for -£2000.

Will he get repeat fees?
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

There is a picture of a chess player on the BBC sport homepage. I'll leave you to read the story and see if you can work out why

There is an article in yesterday's Guardian on chess in Primary schools, focusing on the work of CSC:
https://www.theguardian.com/education/2 ... ry-schools
Headline: Schools teach chess to help ‘difficult’ pupils concentrate
Game takes off in primaries as a way to lure pupils away from their phone screens
