I missed the playoffs and the website only shows the final game of Jones vs mcshane now - I presume Howell and Hanley got a crack at the playoffs too?
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Re: British Chess Championship Daily Reports
Thanks Justin,
By coincidence I'm just about to get every RHP player in on the search
for the book Len Deighton used in 'Funeral in Berlin'. I even bought a 2nd
copy, just finished it in bed this morning. It mus be an original because
this one mentions 'Brocks Fireworks' which turned into a legal matter and
had to be removed from latter editions.

I've a hunch the book was 'Chess' by Gerald Abrahams, one of the 'teach yourself series'
but we will see what turns up.

That would be really interesting. Not sure if I've got that Abrahams book (I can look when I get home at the weekend).

Hi Justin,
Here is the quest open to all chess players everywhere.
https://www.redhotpawn.com/chess-blog/t ... needed.365
Have no fear, someone, somewhere will come through.
The Abrahams book has historical tit-bits scattered all the way though it. Also his turn of
phrase makes it look that some of the chapter leaders could have been his and Deighton
changed them slightly. Another book to check is Murrays 'Chess History' but I no longer have a copy.
It's the pawns being called 'children' by the Tibetans. Find that and we have it.

Re: British Chess Championship Daily Reports
I have a copy of The Chess Mind by Gerald Abrahams, but that doesn't seem like a beginner's book. It is part of the 'Teach Yourself Books' series, but did he do more than one of those? I've had a quick look through and nothing jumped out at me.Geoff Chandler wrote: The Abrahams book has historical tit-bits scattered all the way though it.
Wikipedia gives these books by Abrahams, is this a complete list?
Teach Yourself Chess (1948)
The Chess Mind (1951)
Handbook of Chess (1960)
Technique in Chess (1961)
Test Your Chess (1963)
The Pan Book of Chess (1966)
Not Only Chess (1974)
Brilliancies in Chess (1977)
Deighton's Funeral in Berlin (1964), so not the last three on the list.
We need a dedicated thread for this...
Not Only Chess (1974) sounds interesting. Can anyone recommend it?
