Another very rough Challengers for the female representative.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 2:37 pmWarmerdam (who beat Antón but lost to Abdusattorov) beats Smeets (who beat Abdusattorov but lost to Antón).
Abdusattorov is cruising to victory against Saduakassova and L'Ami has completely turned it around against Eljanov, so I'm not 100% sure it's done and dusted yet.

I've no clue what's going to happen next in the fluctuating Eljanov - L'Ami game; Abdusattorov has N+3 v N+2 which I'd have guessed is drawn?
6 draws in the Masters but Caruana trying to beat Artemiev still

A mad draw in the end.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 3:41 pmI've no clue what's going to happen next in the fluctuating Eljanov - L'Ami game
Chess24 think Antón has won it, and I'm sure they're right. EDIT: definitely right, as Saduakasova held the ending, fine effort from her.

Yes, will be good to see Anton in the Masters next year
Caruana wins again to get to 10, and his rating will now be 2842

I see Antón, having passed 2700 took himself back below it with his penultimate round disaster

I’m guessing his 2021 Wijk opponents won’t be seeing the King’s Gambit he punted against me at Benasque 2011

Final reports from Mark Crowther and Pete Doggers
About playing the masters next year, Anton said: "I will be one of the weakest players, so I think it wouldn’t be so strange if they beat me so many times, but I will just try my best. I think I’ve done good games against good players, so I’ll try to do a good tournament."

Ten-year-old Sohum Lohia (ENG) wins Group 3b of the Wijk Amateurs with a TPR of 2200. Won by a full point. Another promising surge from him.
Being coached by former British Champion RB Ramesh by the look of it.

Thanks for the correction Lawrence.
I read a tweet from Ramesh that was congratulating Sohum, and somehow deduced that they were working together.

I suspect that you may be partly correct and whilst Jonathan is his full time coach that others are also helping him.Colin Patterson wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 12:09 amThanks for the correction Lawrence.

There 's a claim here that anything with a battery in it meets the definition of an "electronic device" in the Laws, in an article explaining why a player was defaulted for wearing a battery operated watch.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2020 9:38 pmThat's where we disagree. I consider it unreasonable. What is the problem with self-certification? If your watch is a cheap digital or any analogue, it isn't smart, so what's the issue?Richard Bates wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2020 9:12 pm. Alex’s point was that sometimes organisers will opt for a solution (not allowing any watches as an alternative to having to check all of them) which allows them to concentrate on other things. It’s hardly an unreasonable position.
The FIDE Laws are deficient because they do not define what is meant by an "electronic device" in the glossary, or anywhere else.
If the author's opinion is correct it would be illegal for me to have my car keys with me while playing.

One might hope that if an arbiter in the UK tried it on by claiming that car keys or a battery powered watch was a banned electronic device, it would trigger a mass walk out. But maybe they have more sense.
The clock and the sensory board are electronic devices, but arbiters are allowed to permit certain electronic devices.
