Re: European Woman Chess Championship Tbilisi 6-19 May
The results page loaded okay because it went to chessresults for me, but I got that message any time I went on a page connected to the main site.

Keti Arakhamia-Grant now has 5/7, losing only to the No1 seed Nazhedza Kosintseva. She currently shares 5-20 place, has a 2377 in round 8 on Sunday (free day tomorrow) so is in serious contention for one of the 14 World Cup places. Alas Jovanka continues to have a poor tournament.

I do agree with Leonard that Keti's results could be included on this thread! For much the same reasons that I thought that Sam Collins' results could have been mentioned during Tromso last year (he made a GM norm): ditto with Neil Berry at Cappelle (where he was close to an IM norm). These players do at least play regularly in England and are known to many on this forum.

I'm quite happy for someone else to undertake to follow Irish, Scottish, Welsh and possibly Channel Islanders as well as they play all around the world but personally I find keeping track of all the English players to be enough to occupy my time. Even then, I seem to get more correspondence complaining about omissions than thanking me for providing regular updates.Jonathan Rogers wrote:I do agree with Leonard that Keti's results could be included on this thread! I have to agree with Loz. We should be thanking him for his updates. If Leonard or Jonathan want to post their own updates, including Keti's daily results, then I am sure we will all welcome that.LozCooper wrote:I'm quite happy for someone else to undertake to follow Irish, Scottish, Welsh and possibly Channel Islanders as well as they play all around the world but personally I find keeping track of all the English players to be enough to occupy my time. point taken. you certainly do deserve thanks and we shouldn't take your services for granted*
* unintentional pun!
At least we all agree that other British nationals' (good) results are of interest. Doubtless Leonard will keep us posted on Keti's results.

The Chess Scotland Noticeboard is giving a lot of coverage to Alex McFarlane's work as an arbiter at the Candidates Matches in Kazan. I'm strongly tempted to make a complaint that Loz's reports and updates never seem to mention English arbiters.LozCooper wrote:I'm quite happy for someone else to undertake to follow Irish, Scottish, Welsh and possibly Channel Islanders as well as they play all around the world but personally I find keeping track of all the English players to be enough to occupy my time. However, as Loz has asked me to be the arbiter for the 2nd Big Slick International, perhaps I'd better not
PS Thanks to Alex H for giving me some training in the use of smileys.
PPS Carl, "smileys" rather than "smilies", surely?

Maybe there should be an arbiting section of the forum? There tend to be lots of rule-related questions from time-to-time that could get dumped in there. That might be the ideal place to mention the successes of English arbiters.David Sedgwick wrote:I'm strongly tempted to make a complaint that Loz's reports and updates never seem to mention English arbiters.

The Chess Scotland noticeboard has a section called 'The Arbiters Jotter'.
The last post to it was on Wed Oct 21, 2009.

Keti Arakhamia-Grant has won again this afternoon to reach 6/8 and is now clearly in the top 14 (the number to qualify for the next World Cup). However almost all the favourites (Cmilyte, Cramling, Muzychuk, Lahno, both Kosintsevas, Kosteniuk, Danielian and Stefanova) are up there as well so she will have some hard pairings in the final three rounds.
Later: there are two players on 6.5/8 and seven on 6/8. Keti is officially placed ninth and will be downfloated tomorrow to play Black against ex-world champion Alexandra Kosteniuk.
