It appears to be a service provider issue as this VPS is having a forced switch to an alternate provider

Not happy with their performance already!!

Running awfully slow and timed me out a couple of times this morning.

(No bad thing I hear the cry)

Sometimes I see a screen full of thread lists but no page breaks
covering the top left of the screen to the bottom right.

Have you tried turning it off and on?

Geoff, it sounds as if the problem is not with Carl but further up the chain. I have been having the same problems as you, but it's still usable.
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

My technical knowledge extends a tiny bit further than that but thanks anyway

If it was Windows then maybe :)

It has taken me quite some time to persude the service providers "support" what the issue actually is even though I know what the problem is

Most of them were not born when I started in IT

I've just managed to access the Forum for the first time since lunch time yesterday. It made me realise how much I've come to depend on it; I've been suffering withdrawal symptoms.

Thanks Carl - and fingers crossed as you say

Carl,

It may be my incompetence, but I've lost a couple of posts when someone else has posted just before I've submitted mine.

That is the software and how it works more than yesterdays problems

If you take a while to submit a post (long time typing) then the software 'stops' and shows you the posts other people added while you were typing if there were any

This gives you the chance to adjust your comments to be more relevant to the new posts - ie: you have to submit your post a second time

I don't think you had a problem Brendan but you should just watch out for the above scenario

Make sense?

This is the message I was getting yesterday from lunchtime onwards
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

Can't create a new thread (errno 12); if you are not out of available memory, you can consult the manual for a possible OS-dependent bug [1135]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.
But I expect Carl knew that. :)

Yes

The first problem was a packet loss issue and the second much bigger problem was a lack of disk space allocated to the virtual instance upon reboot which caused the mysql process to fail to either stop or start...

A service provider who appears unable to do anything outside of working hours was the biggest issue
