Let us pray it will be the black and white version that is printed!
Seriously however, a superb job from Phil!

Re: Makepeace With Chess
Your column appears to be adjacent to "Desperate Housewife": is this merely a coincidence?

Re: Makepeace With Chess
A good breakthrough.
Wee tips.
Mention the prize money that can be won, especially by juniors
(and go overboard on sponsors if any).
The game score.
Put the actual moves played in bold, add a linebreak.
This:
3. Nc3 c6 4. a4 Qa5 5. Bd2 e5 6. Nd5 I quite liked the look of the positions that followed, so I took an early opportunity to relieve the pressure on d5 and e4.
6... Qd8 7. Nxf6+ Qxf6 8. Nf3 Bg4 9. Bc3 Nd7 10. Be2 Bxf3 11. Bxf3 Be7 12. Bg4 An attempt to exploit the bishop pair. And, frankly, designed to annoy black as much as possible.
Looks better and reads better this way:
3. Nc3 c6 4. a4 Qa5 5. Bd2 e5 6. Nd5

6... Qd8 7. Nxf6+ Qxf6 8. Nf3 Bg4 9. Bc3 Nd7 10. Be2 Bxf3 11. Bxf3 Be7 12. Bg4

Not a dig, but you must make the piece attractive and inviting.
Good Luck.

Re: Makepeace With Chess
No.3
The S. Coles - V. Kumar game. Brilliant.
What makes it all the more instructive is that here. White to play.
White must have seen the double attack 12.Qd4 failed to 12...Nxc2+
Having seen that trick his sense of danger no longer registers it.
How many times does that happen?
A player spots the first trick and falls for it in a slightly different setting
a few moves later. Something going on in the chess brain there.
12.Qd3 Bc5 13.Qc3
13...Bb4!
I'll be using that one some time. It's in the Chandler DB.
It's only fair to offer something back.
Sooner or later you will get around to Internet Chess. I have hundreds of humeorus
and instructive examples.
http://www.redhotpawn.com/blog/blogindex.php
Feel free to lift whatever you want. No need for a mention I don't need the hits.
(though I give here a plug in the latest column.)
This is from the latest posted a few hours ago. The White Pawn and The Green Knight
Black to play:
OK what happened in this game. 10 guesses.
1. White Resigned
2. Black Resigned
3. The game was agreed drawn
4. White stalemated Black
5. Black stalemated White
6. White timed out
7. Black timed out
8. White Checkmated Black
9. Black Checkmated White.
10. None of the above.

I'll be covering the e2e4 High Wycombe congress over the weekend. Here's some local news from Round 1.
