New grades are out
All my games seem to have been included except for the London League.
(Please feel free to give me a lecture about how the numbers are not important.)
EDIT: Now I've had a chance to have a look around I've got to say the new site looks very good indeed. Given that some of us - myself included - have had words to say about the ECF on occasion, it's only fair to give them a thumbs up for the change.

Re: New grades are out
A link may help some:
http://ecfgrading.org.uk/
"2011 list published 24.07.2011. Revised 27.08.2011, 28.01.2012"
It is worth reading the text there as well. Hopefully that will get archived somewhere and not just lost when the page is next updated. I would post it all here, but someone might moan about copyright. One brief comment for now: I appreciate the inclusion of all previous results as well as the most recent ones, but that is something some may not have expected. Was all that data fully cleared for release all the way back to 1994?
EDIT: Oh, I see. The early data is just number of games played. Not full details. For me, the point where the display switches from detailed to 'unknown' is 2003, with the full details in 2003 and unknown from 2002 and earlier. Not sure if that is the same for everyone, or varies depending on other factors.

Re: New grades are out
Wow, it certainly has improved massively.
Interestingly, its counting club games which take place over the whole season as taking place on the first of October. This means that if you don't play enough games in a season you may have results from a congress played in November of last season counted rather than a club game played in May.
I must note this quibble has nothing to do with the fact that this feature has resulted in my grade dropping, absolutely nothing at all.

Re: New grades are out
One small quibble. The 'Grade Progress' chart appears to include data points for standardplay grades for January 2007-2011. These don't appear on the pull-down list options for 'Standard Games'. Is this intentional, or is this an error somewhere?
EDIT: To clear up an earlier point, I said earlier that I had expected 41 of my games to be graded for this list (and 8 submitted late). The actual total of 35 is because I forgot 6 games that hadn't been included, so the sums do add up. I'm now wondering if the 14 games that will be graded in the next list count for the "30 games in that period" (January to July 2012) total, or if they count for the previous period (but not really, if you know what I mean). As they get included in the previous period for 'countback' purposes, I'm guessing the latter.

This is being debated elsewhere. E.g. See RIchard Bates' post

The top 5 make interesting reading compared to ELO.

Re: New grades are out
For English players, maybe. I think some foreign super-GMs got silly grades in one list or other.Jonathan Bryant wrote:The top 5 make interesting reading compared to ELO.

Carlsen and Kramnik are 282 and 281 for example:

Ivanchuk is 296:

Re: New grades are out
Do the ECF still say that the conversion is x8 +650 or have they revised it back to the better x8 +600 or something else post the introduction of "new grades".Christopher Kreuzer wrote:Jonathan Bryant wrote:The top 5 make interesting reading compared to ELO.

From here:Richard Bates wrote:Do the ECF still say that the conversion is x8 +650 or have they revised it back to the better x8 +600 or something else post the introduction of "new grades".
http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/help/
ECF x 8 + 650 = FIDE
(FIDE – 650) / 8 = ECF
ECF x 8 + 600 = National Elo
(National Elo – 600) / 8 = ECF
Plus a table.

Re: New grades are out
I suspect the correction will be silently made and uploaded and the only visible change will be the background colour for that grade (to blue, I think) to alert you and others that it is a revised grade. The rogue game should also re-appear under someone else's entry if they identify whose it is! Not sure if the corrections will be done just once or twice, or as an ongoing process.Laurie Roberts wrote:will there be a revised version out where there are errors (have spotted some games included for me that I didn't play)

Re: New grades are out
I would say that we all owe a big vote of thanks to Michael Bennett for taking over and adding his own improvements.
I'm hoping to see the introduction of AJAX which will eliminate the need to click Submit style buttons in many cases and I believe this is planned.
So, hearty congrats to Michael Bennett!

Re: New grades are out
I've just noticed that some people already have a "July 2012" entry.
For example:
http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/?ref=14025 ... 1676933033
That's a nice 4/4 for the most active chess player!

Re: New grades are out
Hi John - thanks for that. I did do the web coding of the recent enhancements (in my "spare time"), but I've received huge support from first Carl Hibbard with the handover, then Howard Grist and Richard Haddrell the whole time since then, plus ideas and input from Alex Holowczak & Adam Raoof, and Roger Marsh took an extra look around and tested the new features. So it's been a big team effort and everyone deserves credit.
In answer to earlier questions, I believe monthly updates are planned to make corrections and add newly played games.
