Apologies to Mick  . Looks like the dates were 8-17 but have been changed to 1-10 December.

Brendan

I was going to post the link to TWIC when I realised it had the original dates

That gives an error message (at least for me).

I've corrected the link. However, it has subsequently been superseded by the one given above by Brendan.

Thanks. I heard a rumour sometime after last year's LCC that Nigel Short had requested to commentate rather than play at this year's event because he felt he could no longer compete with the 2800s - does anyone know if this is true?

Short wrote exactly that in New in Chess.

The times_chess twitter feed says that Gawain Jones has been invited to this year's event. There's no announcement at TWIC or the Classic website yet .

Given the previous news that Nigel wanted to switch to the commentary box, I guess Gawain was next in line to a spot in the Classic. So this isn't particularly groundbreaking news, is it?

It is rather strange than the correspondent at the Times would have a 'scoop' about a tournament organised by the correspondent at the Telegraph.

Does seem rather odd that. Perhaps The Telegraph don't have a twitter feed!
