4NCL 2012 RapidPlay Weekend

Post by Andrew Wainwright » Thu May 17, 2012 12:31 pm

Great to see that the 4NCL RapidPlay Weekend is in the diary again for this year (29 + 30 Sept at Harben House).
We (Bradford DCA Knights) entered a team in this back in 2010 and really enjoyed the format. I was gutted not to be able to play in 2011 due to a clash with my wedding.
I've started to put the feelers out again locally to gauge interest in entering a team or two in this years competition.
Can anyone kindly confirm:

1. Is the format still the same, i.e teams events on the Saturday and individual events on the Sunday?
2. Any idea on entry fees?
3. Any idea on room rates at the De Vere?
4. What are the start times on Saturday and likely finish time on the Sunday?

Thanks,
Andy

Although I haven't done the entry guidelines yet, I doubt the format will be much different from last year. Here's the link to last season's entry guidelines:

http://www.4ncl.co.uk/rapidplay_2011.htm

I imagine the entry fees will be broadly the same, although the prize fund will probably need to reduce given the sizeable loss we made last time!

You can find details about room rates etc here:

Excellent news about Bradford being keen to enter again. Please spread the word around among other northern teams!

I'm just disappointed that you would let something as trifling as getting married come between you and the 4NCL Rapidplay. :? :(

When's the deadline/late entry fee dates?

Probably end of August.

Alan - hopefully that gives me a stay of grace with the entry guidelines! :D

PS Forgot to mention that we are thinking of making it FIDE rated to save game fee costs given that a large number of the players are likely to be 4NCL players anyway.

At the risk of laying bait for Disgusted of Bourne End, if you don't rate it, you'll presumably have to enforce silver membership for the Individual (or £6/£4 Pay to Play), and bronze membership the day before (since 7 games is likely to exceed the price of bronze membership anyway).

Mike - Thanks for the information, I assumed that it would probably be the same format but just wanted to check.

I will do my best to fire up the Yorkshire Hordes!

Clarification in due course on the level of ECF membership required would certainly be appreciated.

I'm not sure the ECF itself knows what its intentions are towards FIDE rated rapidplay. Have a look at the thread under Congresses about the imminent Richmond rapidplay for example. It seems established that membership of any form isn't needed for events up to 31st August 2012.

Roger - yes it is all very confussing.

I look forward to reciving confirmation from the 4NCL as to what level of membership (or alternatively fee per player) is required to take part in the competition. :)

Of course if the organisers remembered who the paying customers were they could register the event for FIDE rating with either the Welsh or Scottish Federation and we would have an answer straight away.

Maybe we could - but where's the fire? If any Scottish teams actually entered the 4NCL Rapidplay it might provide more of an incentive.

You'd make things easier for the players, I thought that was what you were in favour of?

You're being unnecessarily spiky this evening. Bad day at school?!
