I can't wait for her to play against Nigel Short when she is older! :-D

Sh didn't actually checkmate Simen. He resigned.
Some may be confused that they were not playing touch-move. Such variations on the Laws are not unusual in simuls. Thus, in some, the simul giver reserves the right to take back his last move, provided he hasn't moved on the next board.
I would have liked to see the whole game. But obviously she is very talented. Perhaps we will see her at Gibraltar, or even Hastings.
I doubt Simen was too miffed.

Not according to the article:
She was in a potentially winning position against Agdestein's king and four pawns when he ran out of time
So, It was a clock simul and presumably his flag fell. That explains the Keystone Kops approach in the video. Still a great result for the little girl but no suggestion as yet that she is a Judit Polgar in the making.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

I was at The St Pancras Renaissance Hotel today for a meeting about Hastings chess.
They had a chessboard and set laid out correctly on a table in the lounge.

Was it in the papers?
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

No. I just tend to lump these things into the one thread.

"Fewer than 1,000 of the protesters remained Monday afternoon, lounging in and around tents covered with protest banners and flags, dancing, listening to music and playing cards and chess to pass the time".

This from a report in the NY Times on a political crisis in Macedonia. Viva La Revolution!

She's lucky to have such thoughtful and well-judged parents: Merlot is indeed a very fine grape. We can only hope the next child is named Hedge Fund. Then the sponsorship deals will really flow.

No Offence policier Episode 3/8
Suspect in a nurder case. Alibi, he was playing in a chess tournament at his club and won all his games. A purely verbal passing comment.

BBC Breakfast TV this am was talking about the opening of Parliament today. We got a side-on view of a (correctly set-up) chessboard, a journalist behind it, and Parliament buildings behind him. This was followed by a view from above the board and captions relating to what will be in the Queen's Speech. There was also footage of people walking past, doubtless wondering why a chess set was on a table on the grass.

Clever of them to post on June 1 on May 30.

From 1st June Daily Telegraph report on the Cup Final

"Mesut Ozil, a chess grandmaster thinking two or three moves ahead, saw passes few could, and then placed the ball there."

Perhaps Malcolm needs to let them know that even the most average club player manages to think two or three moves ahead!
