I thought that his taking of the minus £2000 to go forward was a cowardly thing to do.

My wife told me there's some bloke says he's a chess player on The Chase. I yawned and said right. She says that he says he's a grandmaster and has drawn with the World No 2. My interest rose sufficiently to go downstairs and see that it's Danny Gormally. Must be about the first time some bloke says he's a chess player and actually is!

Robert
To be fair to Danny he had a grand total of £20 to his name at that point, and under such circumstances normal probability theory ceases to be relevant.

I don't know what you mean by "only had £20 to his name". He had earned a potential £8000 on his questions in the previous part (which i thought was quite impressive) and he could have taken that forward. also his performance against the chaser suggests that he would have won it as well. The three winners would then have shared £22000 instead of £12000.

Robert - Keith was not commenting on the game position, but rather Danny's actual bank balance. He said on the show that he considered £4000 to be a lot of money, hence the decision to minimise his risk of being caught and missing out.
