Re: British 2016 Round by Round
Ioannis Lentzos should beat Charlie Storey shortly in the shock of the round (actually he may have done so for all I know, that looks like a screenfreeze to me) and Matthew Payne has already drawn with Dietmar Kolbus. Oliver Gill really ought to draw with Keith Arkell (Keith missed a couple of very takeable chances) and Mike Waddington is very big favourite against Alistair Hill. Nigel Ralphs is also doing well against Marcus Osborne and really shouldn't lose, although he might have had chances to go for more.
EDIT: Storey-Lentzos back in movement, and probably wasn't a screenfreeze after all. Black still winning.

I have draws on 19 (Matthew Payne) and 21 (Jeremy Menadue) although I see that about half the people who had a go predicted Board 21.

I wouldn't mind the top board catching up with real time.

What happened in the 9-move brevity on board 28? Bit early to lose on time, did mobile phone go off or something like that?

Is it just me or does the board 25 pairing in round 2 look strange - in terms of relative rating ... it seems out of sync with the pairings around it?

Re: British 2016 Round by Round
It does look funny but it is because of a strange set of results. David Coleman is the only person in the top half to draw with White and he cannot play the only person in the bottom half to draw with black

It probably indicates that they are using the pairings generated by the program.Paul Dargan wrote:Is it just me or does the board 25 pairing in round 2 look strange - in terms of relative rating ... it seems out of sync with the pairings around it?
I think something similar was seen at the 2011 European Championships in France. It's a round 2 problem, that trying to pair top half v second half for players who drew in the first round, you are liable to find a number of "first choice" pairings that repeat round 1. The program logic shuffles to avoid this, but the result of the shuffling can run out of possible pairings, so you get one or two where adjacent seeds have to play.
http://chess-results.com/tnr45941.aspx? ... =30&wi=821
Boards 106 and 107 for example
106 94 GM Buhmann Rainer 2590 ½ 1 - 0 ½ Lappas Konstantinos 1949 341
107 144 IM Muzychuk Anna 2528 ½ ½ - ½ ½ GM Yakovich Yuri 2546 127
There was a discussion about this on the forum and it was suggested this should be officially reported to FIDE as a bug of sorts in the pairing program or method.

Where is Hawkins? He appears to have played no games since before Christmas according to the Grading Database ?
