Re: Is rating deflation a thing?

I read an interesting book called talent is overrated a while ago. In that book there was a section about age. It basically said as long as you are doing your deliberate practice that you can maintain your strength regardless of age. So my expectation of Keiths playing strength as someone who plays ...

Re: Development Officer appointment

I think the overriding comment is that any issue surrounding appointments should be directed at the ECF rather than the person appointed. It seems to me that a few appointments recently have courted controversy. I think as a result of this going forward the ECF need to tighten up its recruitment rul...

Re: ECF ACCREDITED COACH: COMPLAINTS SYSTEM?

Morning all. I presented to the board of directors at monthly meeting in sept about issues around junior chess. The junior organisers group that I set up conducted a survey a while ago. One question was did you agree the coaches scheme should be scrapped. 70 per cent disagreed. One of the action poi...

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

Yep major open is quite a bit stronger. I understand trying to make the championship stronger by removing the tail end. However I find it difficult to understand why a young fm 2297 ECF 222 Eli equivalent 2365 can’t get into the British when there is a 159 at the bottom of the British.

This means there are very few 2200 to 2300 in the field. They like myself cannot commit to the amount of weekend tournaments required to be in the Grand Pri...

Coaches and junior organisers group

I would like to set this group up on the back of the new formed junior organisers and coaches group called EJOG. We have a Facebook and twitter page and a website being set up. The forum will be an extra focus point to discuss relevant issues around junior organising and junior coaching
