Based on your experience what would you expect to see as evidence from an innocent party supplied at an appeals panel?

Re: 4NCL Online
In light of this thread can someone please explain to me how, exactly, someone accused falsely of cheating would prove their innocence?
What evidence would it be possible for a person to submit to (successfully) counter the accusation?

ChessCube shut it's doors
Just gone to log in for a quick game/two and noticed the announcement that ChessCube has shut it's doors.
Must admit I didn't go on often, and had noticed that the number of active players had shrunk, but it's still a bit of a surprise as there were no obvious notices about this (that I saw).

Re: Chess congress prizes
Sorry, Robert - so what you're saying is someone who has played exceptionally well, who has performed (potentially significantly) higher than their rating, and has worked just as hard as every other player in the tournament should have their previously-published prize reduce as an outcome of results...

Re: Illegal moves
Back in c. 2005 I had a game in the Border League which started something like 1.f4 d5 2.Nf3 g6 3.g3 Bg7. At this point my opponent took off his coat and knocked over several pieces. After resetting them the game continued 4.0-0 (with the Bishop incorrectly on g2). Neither of us noticed and the game...

Re: Bird's Opening
Jon The early g4 (in the ... Bg4, ... Bxf3 line) was a suggestion of Taylor. It's all about gaining space, something that White can fail to do in the more traditional lines, ending up in a cramped position with the Bishop pair. It's not better than the main line but black players have tended to be l...

Re: 2013 Final Stage
Roger How would challenges have to be made by the offended county before the match starts ? This would only work if team lists, as per AF's suggestions, were exchanged a 'reasonable' period of time before the match. This would, therefore, ensure opposing teams had the time (should they wish) to conf...

Re: 2013 Final Stage
Jonathan I fail to see the messy part of Anthony's answer. He was REPORTING a match result (NOT making a CHALLENGE to the match result) and some information wasn't available which the form asked to be submitted (which you refer to as 'the membership point'). As any good captain would do, when submit...

Re: 2013 Final Stage
Angus One of the responsibilities of the Middlesex MC is to ensure Middlesex match records are complete They wouldn't be complete if there was missing data, would they? In addition the match result sheet has a column for membership number. What would you suggest a captain does if one isn't available?

Re: 2013 Final Stage
I have received a response from the Middx captain - see below (italics). As he does not wish to join the forum (I can understand why) I don't intend to be an intermediary on this again. So to the matter at hand. Some background information. One of the responsibilities of the Middlesex MC is to ensur...

Re: 2013 Final Stage
I have sent an email to the Middlesex captain (as I suspect others have) drawing his attention to this thread, enquiring (a) whether he wishes to respond and (b) whether he wishes the (any) response to be via the forum. Given the way this thread is progressing (as have others on this forum) I hope i...

Re: 3rd Pimlico Chess Tournament
James The situation (ie the danger of the CSCL folding) is not just specific to the CSCL (I do appreciate you know this!). The LCCL (London Commercial Chess League) is also now down to two divisions, dwindling clubs and shrinking board numbers per match (not to mention increasing defaults). There's ...

Re: Should we scrap adjournments?
Roger - quite frankly pro- or anti-adjudication I'd be very worried if any game played under ECF rules was not adjudicated through the ECF, irrespective of the strength/ability of the adjudicator.

Re: Should we scrap adjournments?
As Roger says, change at league level is difficult. Not just is there the problem of 'senior people' being pro a/a but also people who want quick finishes often won't attend meetings. I also remember, several years ago, one attendee at an AGM voting pro-a/a when I knew his club supported quickplay. ...
