Re: New ECF Rating Database

New site is definitely an improvement over the old one. I do not know if you remember, with the old one navigation was really limited - if you clicked somewhere there was no way back... I only wish the rating graph was done using chart.js or something similar (like FIDE), but I guess that is probab...

Re: Cheater or not - what do you think?

Once you eliminate the forced moves and the theory, the tests did not confirm any suspicious activity. One game was actually a walkover because the opponent was defaulted. Weird - I was actually watching that game LIVE, and I have a PGN of it. So how come the opponent "defaulted"? :D In fact, I was...

Re: Cheater or not - what do you think?

EDIT: And coincidentally here's one from a few hours after I posted, 46 moves played. I would expect a 2050+ ELO player to have such performance more frequently than 1560 ELO player. Being one I know how rare it is and how highly improbable it is to have two games without even a tiny mistake in 7 r...

Re: Cheater or not - what do you think?

Well, I did not want to offend anyone by giving names, etc. What I can tell you is that in one 42move (84ply) game PlayerB did not make a single mistake (inaccuracy, mistake or blunder). In another one, also 42moves he made just two tiny inaccuracies. I understand Joseph's point that when one blunde...

Cheater or not - what do you think?

Let me first provide some context. - There was an interesting online tournament in the recent past with an open section and an U1700 section. Time control is G/60m with 10s/move increment. The winner of the U1700 section, let call him PlayerB, has ~1560 ELO and had 7/7 performance. I passed all 7 ga...

Re: ECF Online Chess

I really enjoyed the yesterday's online ECF 3+2 blitz tournament. It was good fun. I wish next time there are even more players... Next lichess ECF tournament is rapid I think (10m games).

Re: New grading conversions

Sure, that is why there is the "k" factor in the formulae, and it is precisely why I think grades should be calculated using historical data - because the process can calculate the k-factor as it processes the data...

Re: New grading conversions

Assuming they have historical data, with all results for past N years, I wonder why do they not calculate ELOs from scratch instead of converting existing ECF grades to ELO? This would ensure most accurate ELO ratings. - Sure this is computationally heavy process, but it can be done extremely fast i...

Re: Chess & Bridge Withdraw Ray Keene's Book from Sale

Looks like people, who probably never wrote any book, envy Curys as he is obviously a hard-working person. It is always easy to criticise someone else's work... As I mentioned before, I have few books written (or coauthored) by him and I do not find them bad at all. - Quite contrary!
