There is some speculation that Mickey Adams is on Fabi's team, since he was seen in the background of an online event he was streaming.
If this is what was seen I'm not sure it was Mickey Adams.
If that isn't Adams then it's the greatest doppleganger in history.

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020

All this stuff can't be ideal for Ding and Wang Hao. Can't be ideal preparation. Plus they have a lot of pressure as it is.

Don't like Caruana either. Think he'll "bounce" after a big performance in Wijk.

I sense an upset quite strongly here. Giri, Nepo, Gris. One of those three will win.

Re: The difference between extrovert and introvert chess players.

Yeah it's just terminology, invented by people like Jung and Freud (and like a lot of their theories, probably doesn't have much scientific basis.) I think it's pretty obvious though that some people are shy and awkward and that seems to come out in their chess, while the same could be said of outgo...

Re: The difference between extrovert and introvert chess players.

I think Morphy was an introvert. Although he played like an extrovert.

Steinitz I would have had down as an extrovert personally. Same with Keres.

Re: The difference between extrovert and introvert chess players.

Spassky a definite extrovert. Not so sure about Carlsen he seems to fit in between both stools. Lalic and Petrosian pessimistic yes.

Re: Leonard Barden's last Evening Standard column

I noticed the other day there was a big backgammon column in the times 2 section, but the chess column had been reduced to just one puzzle. Perhaps a reflection of the lack of regard chess is held in these days compared to earlier times. I must admit I cut my teeth on Barden's evening standard colum...

Re: Chess.Com getting sued.

Wasn't somebody thinking of suing them for allegedly copying the puzzle rush idea from his site? Michael Mkpadi I believe.

The difference between extrovert and introvert chess players.

I was thinking earlier about the difference between an extrovert chess player and a chess player who is an introvert. I guess an extrovert player is fundamentally optimistic, always thinks he's winning, etc. An introvert is more analytical, and objective, and possibly pessimistic. Obviously it's har...

Re: Tata Steel 10th-28th Jan 2020

Maybe I've overreacting, but Fiouzja already looks a top five in the world player. maybe top three on current form. (top one?!) Maybe history will show us that Carlsen was just the first in the line of these super kids, who take chess to another level because of engines. And in fact Carlsen wasn't t...

Be amazed if there's not a carlsen-firouzja world champs match at some point in the future.

Re: Tata Steel 10th-28th Jan 2020

Amazing grind by fiouzja. Maybe giri got a bit casual there and assumed the rook ending was an easy draw. Also firouzja has more fighting skills than his opponent. there were a couple of occasions he could have wimped out and taken a draw which possibly his opponent would have done if the colours ha...

Re: Tata Steel 10th-28th Jan 2020

Draw in Caruana-Van Forrest when there was plenty of play left and Black clearly better. Of course you don't see the comp eval in the game but I think it shows again the fault in the draw offer rule. Can you imagine another game or sport where the game is just curtailed midstream As for Boggie he's ...

Re: Tata Steel 10th-28th Jan 2020

I would say that carlsen's biggest weapon other than his huge strength, is the fear factor that he strikes in opponents. he has a certain armour in the sense that players are wary of him and certainly some very strong players with white (like yu yangi two days ago for example) are just happy to play...
