Re: Patrick Ribbands

Very sorry to hear this
I played a really exciting game with him in the British in Bournemouth (2016) which we drew in the end
He was a lovely man when we chatted afterwards
RIP

Re: Film: Late Call

" that imaginative star dust that The Queens Gambit had in spades"
Agree totally with you Matt
I thought it was brilliant on so many levels and has been the best thing that has happened for ages in bringing chess to the notice of the general public

Re: Media comments on chess

"I think Charlie Storey's advert in the Women's Chess Category for the Queens Gambit Academy comes a close second." I do agree with you Simon I took out a months Netflix subscription to watch the Queens Gambit and it's fabulous . It has done a great deal to to bring chess to a wider audience Perhaps...

Re: Obscure International OTB Events Going Ahead in 2021

Ah Simon
Portmeirion takes me back to that wonderful cult TV show The Prisoner "i am not a number I am a free man " and patrick mcgoohan's Lotus 7
Happy memories
But I suspect you are talking about Portmeirion Australia not Portmeirion North WAles

Re: Closing Gambit

Just watched it at long last I thought it was great in reminding me about a period when I first became really interested in chess. Chess was exciting and dramatic in those days So good to hear so much from strong grandmasters of the past. I don't see how any chess player could not get at least some ...
