Re: ECF Membership Reform
I find this thread totally unreal Surely we can all appreciate the work that unpaid volunteers do behind the scenes to keep the ECF running for all our benefit I think it is ridiculous that someone who is too tight fisted to even join the ECF ( yes you John Townsend ) should have their views given c...

Re: Inaugural Wells Chess Congress 8th - 10th March 2024
I considered entering this congress but it appears very difficult to reach by public transport
It seems that from Brighton I would need to get a train to Bath and then have a bus journey of over an hour to Wells
Can the organisers advise if there is an easier way

Re: How Come This Player Has Joined English Fed?
All will be pleased to know a club does want me to play for them and I've spoken to them on phone...... Some of my chess playing may depend on funding from my multi millionaire sponsor DEAN STAVELEY... Will the ex Holmfirth multi millionaire (he still has at least one turbine there) provide more fu...

Re: Accusation against Alejandro Ramirez
I've really enjoyed following the forum over the last few years, though I am not sure that going down the route of a gossip column and innuendo is the way it should be taken as there are other outlets that cater for such tastes and the content here is largely professional and informative, though I ...

Re: Thanet Congress
An interesting question
5000 years ago Thanet was separated from the mainland by the Wantsum Channel
This has long been filled with silt and shingle and is now marshland
Thanet is no longer strictly an island
Lots on Google if you are interested

Re: Thanet Congress
It is certainly in a beautiful part of Kent and very close to 3 famous golf courses : Princes, Royal St George and Royal Cinque Ports I guess accommodation could be an issue as there is very little in Sandwich itself Probably means staying in Deal or Ramsgate which are both only 5 or 10 minutes away...

Re: Improve Your Chess Calculation: The Ramesh Chess Course - Volume 1
"As a genre, chess literature is so decadent its almost criminal, and to think someone will actually buy this. In case you haven't guessed already, the author isn't actually the slightest bit interested in whether your chess calculation improves or not, he just wants money." I just wonder what your ...

Re: Advice on return to OTB chess
This has been a really interesting thread for me I have recently returned to OTB after a long Covid break. My results in the 2 weekenders I have played in have been really disappointing A lot of this may be due to lack of recent practice but I am worried something worse may be at work : Age I am 72 ...

Re: Philidor wins Hampshire Championship
""It is good to see that this event was organised for a 4NCL weekend. Top quality planning!" It's worth pointing out that the Hampshire congress has been held on this particular weekend for many years.I first played in the congress in 2013 and i suspect it has been going for longer than that Well do...

The greatly missed Tim Crouch may have started all this
