Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

Although this was only the first time I was tested this was 100% my third time having corona virus....my first two times were well documented on this forum back in March....I have deleted many of those posts as a chess colleague has since died a few weeks after those posts. I can assure anyone read...

Re: Membership Renewal

Would you speculate why that might be? Would it be that continued government restrictions make it impossible or at best unattractive to organise events in the usual manner? Or is it that enforced inactivity will have provoked a mass retirement from active play? A mixture of both. Up to 24 months of...

The usual expectation is that the British takes place during the school holiday period.
Maybe its time to move forward
....& move away from the rather old fashioned, holding the Championship's during the "Summer Academic Break".

Re: Should the ECF try to organise more chess?

I think that the key point is being able to run the British OTB in 2021. If we cannot then we may lose members not online. Looking at the current situation in the UK .......I will be very surprised if the British OTB in 2021 takes place as planned. Optimistically, re-scheduled for later in the year...

Re: Gibraltar Chess Festival 2021

2021 Festival Cancellation With the greatest regret we hereby announce that the 19th edition of the Gibraltar International Chess Festival, which would normally have taken place in the second half of January, 2021, is officially cancelled. Each year Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar anticipates...

Re: Membership Renewal

Clubs, Congress Organisers, the ECF: ....may have to accept that OTB Chess will miss not just one season, but could take up to 5 years to recover. Would you speculate why that might be? Would it be that continued government restrictions make it impossible or at best unattractive to organise events ...

Re: British Championship Congress 2021

This has been announced as being back at Torquay. That's presumably provided it again becomes legal to hold chess events where players physically meet. https://www.britishchesschampionships.co.uk/british-chess-championships-2021/ Looking at the current situation, I would not be surprised if the Bri...

Re: Membership Renewal

I've noticed that some club officials hold a personal opinion (e.g. "I do not play online chess") and they believe that members of their club should hold the same opinion i.e. they can be selective about what they pass on to their membership. Communications become throttled at this point. I am awar...

What role is there for the ECF? Or for that matter Chess Scotland and the Welsh Chess Union.
A very good question.

Re: Membership Renewal

Right now I can't, in good faith, encourage my league players to be Bronze members on the basis that there might be some OTB chess to play in. I wouldn't want to feel that the clock is ticking and I have to organise something before the end of the season, regardless of whether it's safe. To the arg...

I wonder if the Russian state gave any thought to a chess cheating program, but perhaps gave up on the idea as more trouble than it was worth?
Perhaps you should read "The KGB Plays Chess".

Re: Membership Renewal

i think they will published something before the AGM as no one know how covid will effect the ECF and now after boris announcement today, i don't think OTB will happen now in 2020!! Sadly I expect an entire season to be lost, & even a delay to the 2021-2022 Season. Many clubs will cease to exist in...

Re: Membership Renewal

In my home town of Lancaster the venue for the club remains closed with no signs of reopening. Is it still the Reform Club? Slightly surprising that hasn't reopened tbh. Looked very closed today. Even the sign for Lancaster Chess Club has been removed. Lancaster Chess Club does have a website. http...

I think the Spa Complex is owned by the council.
A decent venue, much improved since they fixed the lighting a few years ago.
