............the Blackpool Chess Conference 2021 looking very unlikely.
Simon,
As you have updates about the Blackpool Chess Conference 2021 (now cancelled), I was wondering if you had any other information from Lancashire
....Fylde League etc.

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

I've been informed from a reliable source that Blackpool Congress 12th to 14th March has been cancelled. No confirmation on the website yet though. This was expected. Lets see if the website gets updated. It's possible to book hotel accommodation in Torquay for the announced dates of the British Ch...

Re: H E Atkins

I remember the Leicester Congress was named the "H E Atkins Memorial".
There must be residents of Leicestershire & its neighbouring counties with information, games, photographs etc.

Paul why does that matter. Since March the advice has been for office staff and employers has been work from home if you can.
So that is easy and when it comes to renewal it may take a minute or two for a phone call as per last 10? years to pay.
Just curious.
Do you know the answer?

At present the office staff are working part time with coverage on Wednesday and Thursday and the mornings of Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
Are they home working or in the office?

Re: Lockdown and Queen's Gambit have boosted my online rating

My online rating on PlayChess is higher than my ECF or FIDE ratings.
This maybe because in online chess my approach, is to always to try & win, resulting in a much higher % win rate
.....whilst OTB I am much more cautious, & not happy to risk losing several games in succession.

Re: Event Cancellation

Unlikely to surprise anyone, but the 2021 East Devon in the Exeter Corn Exchange has been formally cancelled. Usually it's late February or early March and the 2020 event was one of the last English events held. Blackpool was the last major one, I think? Doubt if enough people will get vaccinated i...

Spassky was allowed to marry his French fiancée, Marina, he asked for permission to visit his new in-laws in August 1976 just a few weeks after Korchnoi defected. Spassky was given a one year exit visa, and when this expired another year was granted He was still a Soviet player. The Spassky - Korch...
