Re: Chess Masters: the Endgame
The programme in this form likely won't bring in stronger players. They want blunders and elementary tactics that the viewer can understand. Their worst nightmare is a series full of opening theory, strategically winning positions with equal material, and rook endings. We're not the audience. That d...

Re: Chess Masters: the Endgame
Yeah, it's too frequent a topic of conversation at my club nights for me to believe that all chess players hate it and that it is objectively bad television.

Re: Chess Masters: the Endgame
It's a TV show. Not a chess infomercial.
The apprentice is also a TV show, not the world's longest investment pitch contest.

Re: Chess Masters: the Endgame
I think that what we are watching is a heavily edited version of the games. They probably get the players to play the games and then get them to play the moves again, telling them to pause in certain positions (so viewers can consider the position in the light of the commentary). That could be chal...

Re: Chess Masters: the Endgame
Thalia was a strong Division 1 player in the Shropshire League until she moved to Chester, so the Welsh Marches have our champion.

Re: Playing with ECF ratings data at chessratinganalytics.com
I have the game results, but not the player ratings for each individual game, which is needed for the performance rating and the chart. I have a plan though.

Re: Playing with ECF ratings data at chessratinganalytics.com
I am struggling to get the features to work for my rating data. Maybe because I am on a phone. Is it best to use a desktop to access some features? When I switch to "last 50 games" it doesn't reload. Also, if you have hundreds of games, how does "last 50" work versus "all-time"? The chart only seem...

Re: Playing with ECF ratings data at chessratinganalytics.com
I've managed to wrangle some of the pre-4 digit data into the site. So now your games, events and common opponents are computed and shown all the way back to 2002 (or to a max of 2000 games if you've been that active). I'll work on getting the rating data for those pre-2021 games incorporated at som...

Re: Playing with ECF ratings data at chessratinganalytics.com
Thanks folks, I'll have a think about how best to offer some advanced filtering options - will largely depend on what info is available to me.
I did experiment with a rolling performance rating chart, but the first attempt wasn't pretty. I'll have another look at it.

Now includes your top 3 results in the selected time period (wins are counted as opponent rating + 400, draws are counted as opponent rating for comparison purposes)

Re: Playing with ECF ratings data at chessratinganalytics.com
Thank you David, I hope people find it has some useful, or at least some interesting information held within.
I hope to be able to include some of the old 3 digit monthly rating system data too at some point, but it's a bit tricky.

Playing with ECF ratings data at chessratinganalytics.com
One of things I love most about chess is the quantitative feedback you get on performance - primarily in the form of ratings. And that has led me to spend a lot of time playing with the ratings data the ECF provide us with - I once calculated which players were most severely affected by the 4NCL Sat...
