Re: Yorkshire league 2026/7 Season

It certainly is maddening. Having to pick my daughter up from Brighouse station every Sunday for work. A rail upgrade that has knocked out services every weekend for the last year.

Re: Yorkshire league 2026/7 Season

Yes for HDCA. Crystal was working and could not make it. Due to the trains been out at Huddersfield, we could not get Alan to Doncaster, so he played for our B team this round.

With three teams, drivers are a god send!

Re: Huddersfield & District Chess Association

Dear all, Tonight was the Huddersfield & District Chess Association (HDCA) AGM. It commenced with a one-minute silence to pay respects to David Robinson. David was a lovely and well-respected member of the chess community. On coming back to chess, he reached 1700 very quickly and became an establish...

Thank you Stephen, it’s always interesting to see the match from the opposition perspective. Well played to all at Yorkshire.
Peter Lee is still playing high level bridge as well as chess
It was very tense towards the end and some great games. Whatever the result it was a very enjoyable day.

Re: 2026 National Stages

For those interested, I did my usual Yorkshire match reports and various photos. This is for Saturday's u2050s match between Yorkshire and Surrey: https://holmfirthchess.org.uk/2026/05/18/yorkshire-county-chess-quarter-finals/ Also the u1850s game against Lincolnshire: https://holmfirthchess.org.uk/...

Re: Yorkshire league 25/26 season

About time :) The Halifax - Huddersfield derby remains elusive, although I guess if Meltham do become Huddersfield B that'll count :) There would be lots of derbies next season as the A team would be the Woodhouse one, playing from Huddersfield and the B team from Holmfirth. Therefore, the I.M. Bro...

Re: Yorkshire league 25/26 season

Hull come to Holmfirth. I actually already have a team, courtesy of our venue intending to put on filled Yorkshire puddings for everyone. Fastest 8 raised to date.

Re: Yorkshire league 25/26 season

Congratulations to Huddersfield in securing the title, defeating Holmfirth at Lindley 6-2. With a large rating disparity on all boards but 1, Holmfirth performed well. It was very cordial, as all the players know each other well and both teams mix in the local leagues.

Re: Manchester in the NCCU

Thank you. Yes sadly and we had ordered pie, peas and chips, prepared by a local chef. Luckily the default got in just before Hayley got the ingredients. Some disappointed Yorkshire players, who are keen foodies. However very happy to get the title. Was slightly alarmed by requests for fine art pain...

Re: Manchester in the NCCU

This weekend's county game is at the Stumble Inn, Holmfirth, with our u1850s facing Merseyside. Whilst I have sorted food (pie, chips and peas), the player requests for fine art and classical music are a toughie for a sporty wet pub...

Re: Yorkshire league 25/26 season

It promises to be another exciting finish. Great to meet you on Sunday by the way and thanks for the engaging chat on the way back to Huddersfield. Holmfirth's last match of the season is against Hull B. The Stumble are putting on food for us all. They are also doing the catering for this weekend's ...
