Re: Pawn Sacrifice - the film

LOUIS VUITTON
A whole page ad in the Sunday Times news section. Two people are playing chess. The whole board is not visible. The only caption
VICTORY IS A STATE OF MIND
I presume i is the usual thing about chessplyers being discerning people - not cheats. I just don't understand the point of the ad.

Re: Pawn Sacrifice - the film

Of course Toby McGuire was in the film as Bobby because it was his project. I think the title of the film, 'Pawn Sacrifice' was nonsense. I played some blitz games with Bill Lombardy in Reykjavik. He won all of them . I asked, 'Aren't you finding it boring?' He responded. 'No, I'm bored wih just bei...

Re: Media comments on chess

Episode in FOYLE'S LAW called Broken Souls.
I saw the re-run of this epidode, virtually by chance, Tuesday evening on ITV3.
Foyle, a policeman, plays chess several times with a psychologist. It was not strictly relevant to the plot which wa a murder mytery. The series was set in the Second World War.

Paul McKeown >With the use of increments, and clocks set with move counters,<

I have never seen a chessclock with a move counter. It is always a push counter. There could be such clocks, attached to a digital board.

Re: Karpov "hospitalised and in a serious condition"

It is some years since I last met Anatoly Karpov (Tolya) but, in over 40 years, I never heard of his over-indulging in alcohol.
I very much doubt he was assaulted actually in the Duma. If he was found there, it is more likely there was an accident.

John Upham > What is a cheap protagonist? <
It is what is called technically 'a typo' - as you knew very well

DEVIL'S HOUR
On Amazon prime video. I have yet to see it. It starts today and I think there are 6 episodes.
There was a glowing review in today's Daily Tlegraph. It was accompanied by a photo showing the cheap protagonist studying a chess position.
