Re: Seeking London League historical photographs

Many thanks for these links!

The League was founded in 1887 or 1888 so far as we know, and I am looking to cover any periods possible really. Ideally I'm looking for photos strictly of London League competition.

Seeking London League historical photographs

Hello all, I wonder if anyone is aware of sources of historical photographs of London League competitions? I am working on preserving some historical data about the league (which I do have), and it would be lovely to have photos or clippings to present alongside. I must admit I'm not sure where to b...

Women's chess in London

I am curious whether anyone knows of any historical women's chess leagues in London? The London League will introduce a women's division this year, and while I can't find any evidence of any previous women's league, I would be amazed if this were the city's first.

Re: Accusation against Alejandro Ramirez

I think several commenters here should completely rethink their way of speaking about these issues. The tone across much of this thread is far removed from the behaviour accepted in ordinary society, and in some cases plain hatred of women is very clear.

Re: what do you consider as biggest threat to organized chess?

By the way, when you have got rid of all the elderly men, who will arrive early at the venue to set up and hang around after the games to put away? Be careful what you wish for. You're rather misrepresenting my position, Nick. I was responding to a comment about how the overwhelming majority of org...

Re: Accusation against Alejandro Ramirez

You are well aware that "she was wearing sports wear" was not the worst part of the comment I objected to. [redacted] herself. My friend in his 60s talked to me about finding her distracting. She was wearing sports wear and finding it necessary to perform back stretches during the game. Honestly, I ...

Re: what do you consider as biggest threat to organized chess?

My comment about filibustering refers more to those who do strongly resist change when someone does get involved (a curmudgeonly minority to be sure). But yes, I agree with much of what you say.

Re: Accusation against Alejandro Ramirez

Do you consider that it was harassment nonetheless? The fact that this player told others he found her appearance distracting (it sounds like in some detail), and now yourself publishing the anecdote with the victim's name, a description of her clothing and apparently even her "prominent boobs", or...

Re: Accusation against Alejandro Ramirez

Attraction is allowed, Chris, but making published comments about another player's breasts falls well below the standard of common decency, as you must surely be well aware. I would be surprised if I were heteronormative, being a lesbian woman. I am trying to work out what I can do to respond to har...

Re: Accusation against Alejandro Ramirez

I think you should remove that story, Paul. It is not as though you've said "I was aware of someone making highly inappropriate comments"; you've named a female grandmaster in a lewd anecdote about how her body and clothing distracted your unnamed friend. My point regarding asking women to dinner is...

Re: Accusation against Alejandro Ramirez

The only incident I can think of where a person talked to me about about a young female player in sexualized terms was [redacted] herself. My friend in his 60s talked to me about finding her distracting. She was wearing sports wear and finding it necessary to perform back stretches during the game....

Re: what do you consider as biggest threat to organized chess?

OTB and club Chess cannot survive without it's dedicated army of unpaid volunteers. In my experience these are mostly elderly (over 50). Are younger players being encouraged to take over. My experience is that younger players are willing, but that our generation's baseline for normal behaviour (e.g...

Welcome Nikita! He joins a long list of players who have changed federations after a warmonger's actions in their country of origin. I am proud to accept such players as fellow nationals and teammates.

Re: Transgender chess players

I have never proposed either guessing or misogynistically scrutinising, in fact it seems your answers line up perfectly with mine. On the contrary, you've mentioned many examples of people who are not women and do not identify as women, and who would not be eligible for women's tournaments (nor wou...
