Re: Membership Renewal
A mixture of both. Up to 24 months of Government Restrictions (which will include travel), & the continuing closure of venues. The time it will take for people to return to socialising in a more "normal way". I think the last is an exaggeration. There will be some that will not be happy resuming. T...

Re: Membership Renewal
I am aware of Club Officials imposing their personal views about "Online Chess" on members in my local area. The Blackpool and Fylde league have been running online individual events all summer and they have just started an online league of two divisions, including Bare Village. Leyland congresses ...

Re: Membership Renewal
Just looking through the Grading Database for my local area Lancashire: It looks like renewals could be down by 50%. Is there much chess going on in Lancashire? I know 1 of the Manticores leads Preston South End in 4NCL online but they weren't in the County Championship online and our Lancashire pl...

Re: Cheating in chess
Official events still probably have the best chances for an honest competition. I have high hopes for the next 4NCL Online Congress! You have to get your long plays from somewhere. Plus closed events offer the best chances for an honest competition as well, especially those events that will screen ...

Re: WCJS Shreyas Royal versus Emily Maton £500 Playoff date
I watched it live on Sunday morning as I wasn't doing anything else.
I think I just clicked on a link on one of the threads on here.
This is what I have just clicked on, which I think it is the link, for those who wish to watch.

Re: Hastings grading year
I expect they all go into the Feb 2020 list. FIDE. All my London Chess Classic are showing in the tentative Jan 2020 list. FIDE. I expect all of these London Chess Classic games will be in the Jan ECF list. Enjoy Hastings and do not worry too much about the new monthly trial conversions in 2020. Ye...

Re: ECF Grading Proposals
I know this is a bit of an old topic now but I just had an idea that is the best of both worlds - why not do monthly grades for under 18s and leave the rest to be 6 monthly, then we could also do away with the guesstimate ratings for juniors and be able to use whatever their current rating for calc...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system
....The Scottish elo system has been updated on a weekly basis for some years, and congress results are posted within a day or two, often before entrants get home, and graded within a fortnight at most.. My local Glasgow League results are processed very rapidly as well, often on the league website...

Re: Batumi Olympiad
For example, players positioning the King Kc3 to Ke4 will often be recorded as a final move, which in fact is just the positioning of the Kings to record the result. How does the sensory software know that Ke4 has been placed by an arbiter, rather than played? Easy enough if it's not a legal move, ...

Re: Batumi Olympiad
Minor point: I wonder how Chess24 manages to record 117...Ke4 as being played? Aren't all games drawn once it's down to bare kings? Ever since they were first designed, DGT boards have had the feature that you indicate results by putting kings on the central squares. You might think they had devise...

Re: British Championship 2018
Now more than a week after the championships have finished, I notice that (unlike previous years) none of the games have been published for any of the five day tournaments (i e. Morning Open & below) or the weekenders. Was this a deliberate policy change or just finding that there wasn't enough res...

Re: Snow Cancellations
Replacement bus service from Preston to Blackpool at the moment due to electrification work on the line I did think of playing this year and got as far as researching train times. That was when I found the train was a bus, so I dropped the idea. That was a shame Roger. The brand new buses are a sup...

Re: Hastings 28 Dec 2017 - 7 Jan 2018

Hello Stewart Unfortunately, the internet connection at Hastings hasn't proved robust enough to stream video. But we are providing you with more live games than ever before. Best wishes from ...
