Re: 2023/2024 Season

To answer the question raised - I am the Yorkshire League controller, results are submitted to me by captains and I enter them on LMS as quickly as it is practical for me to do so. The upgrade would be to get the match captains to do it as soon as they had phone or computer access after their perso...

Re: Living in the Past: The Chiltern League

Can't the grading be done using the result card which has been published? What other information is needed? The ECF LMS is configured to accept inputs from the authorised rating officer which is Peter Hemmings and no-one else. Obviously an ECF admin person could submit the data but why should they?...

Re: Four arbiting queries

John, If you are an arbiter, do you not get emails from the ECF Manager of Arbiters for events that require arbiters? Perhaps the ECF do not have your email address, my advice would be to contact the Manager of Arbiters, details on the ECF website. Most events would pay arbiter expenses. The arbiter...

Re: Four arbiting queries

John, have you considered attending an arbiter course?

It will give you all the answers to these questions, plus many more you might encounter in the future.

Look on the ECF website for further information, or contact the Manager of Arbiters.

Re: Carlsen v Nepomniatchi 2021 World Championship

I don't know if Nepo will go for it or wait until Friday where he has the White / Black / White combination. My gut says he is going to try to strike back today so I had a large lunch in anticipation of not getting back in time to eat tonight :D Good to hear British arbiters getting their prioritie...

Re: Scoresheet To PGN

I am sure most of us have a draw somewhere stuffed with hundreds of old scoresheet that will "one day" get digitised but growing ever larger without the job being done. It got me thinking though, there are now apps which can scan paper and turn them into digital text and I wondered if anyone has ex...

Alex & Lara congratulations
Seconded (or thirded); I hope Alex is fully recovered now.
I am sure Alex will recover from it in a few weeks, it may take a little longer if he had to pay for it of course.

Re: Membership Renewal

A mixture of both. Up to 24 months of Government Restrictions (which will include travel), & the continuing closure of venues. The time it will take for people to return to socialising in a more "normal way". I think the last is an exaggeration. There will be some that will not be happy resuming. T...

Re: Membership Renewal

I am aware of Club Officials imposing their personal views about "Online Chess" on members in my local area. The Blackpool and Fylde league have been running online individual events all summer and they have just started an online league of two divisions, including Bare Village. Leyland congresses ...

Re: Membership Renewal

Just looking through the Grading Database for my local area Lancashire: It looks like renewals could be down by 50%. Is there much chess going on in Lancashire? I know 1 of the Manticores leads Preston South End in 4NCL online but they weren't in the County Championship online and our Lancashire pl...

Re: Cheating in chess

Official events still probably have the best chances for an honest competition. I have high hopes for the next 4NCL Online Congress! You have to get your long plays from somewhere. Plus closed events offer the best chances for an honest competition as well, especially those events that will screen ...
