By contrast, Leicester Square was pretty empty
Is that because Leicester has had an outbreak?

Re: Garry Kasparov on AI

Is there any reason to think Kasparov is actually expert in this field at all? None whatsoever. He was invited to join Nick Bostrum's at his Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University, without doubt as a name-recognisable, sponsorship-seeking intiative by the Institute. In his own book on th...

Chess on the battlefield

Here, in a clip from a Russian film, Zvezva (2002), a young war volunteer offers Chess as a key transferrable skill :-)

It was also the venue for the spring Blackpool congress in the 1970s and 80s.
That's when I remember it. Don't think they've changed the table linen since.

Re: Gibraltar 2020

Buckels - Ivanchuk Ye Gods, Chucky, even I could see it and the follow-up at #26. Completely nailed on. Play it on auto-pilot. A total bust that would give Ivanchuk [-14.0]. Missed. Then he subsequently lost. Astounding

Re: Gibraltar 2020

Can anyone explain why Stephen Gordon's opponent resigned today? Chessbomb (SF) gives Gordon [-0.35]. Has his human opponent seen beyond the 'horizon'?

van Foreest - Firouzja

Ludicrous, simply ludicrous! 100 years of carefully honed Najdorf theory, ignored. 500 years of basic chess principles, ignored. 6. Bd2 the other day was bad enough. But 6 Rg1 is an outrage. As for 11 Kd1, words fail me. What are we Naj players to do now?

Not SoA-B. And if/when promoted, none of the others would survive promotion anyway. 3N has reached its limits from its own resources. Ambitious incomers can use it as a 'drive-through' on the way up. But otherwise, from the North, we're done
