Re: 2019-20 Season

There could be problems here for some squads. Since Feb 29 is being deemed contemporaneous with Nov 9 (ie. as weekend 1), squads such as mine (Spirit of Atticus) with teams in Div 1/2 & Div 3 could find their lower team players from Nov 9 being barred from playing for the higher team on Feb 29. Very...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

I'm sorry Hok but Angus French is not interested in that scrutiny. He just wants as much influence in ECF affairs as possible but with the minimum of work. His insistence on pedantry and the right to scrutinise confidential details is simply to make the lives of Mike Truran and Malcolm Pein (and ot...

Re: 2019-20 Season

Looks like there'll be a little movement on dates. * Week 1 (Div ! & 2) may move to accommodate the ECC * Week 4 (Div 3N) may move to avoid some other clash On venues, assuming there was any choice in the matter, it looks a good call for the majority of players to jettison Telford for Daventry. Ditt...

Would you support a system, where like the world of Bridge, the amount paid directly or indirectly to support the ECF was in direct proportion to how much you played?

Absolutely!

There was a time, a while back, when he looked bored, on the verge of jacking it in. No longer. He's utterly dominant now. As others have observed, both Svidler & MVL gave way to his inevitable procession. Remarkable

Carlsen wins GRENKE at a canter with 7.5 from 9. Remarkable performance! (But does anyone here care?)

Final Weekend Pairings

Computer says "NO"

Alex McF says "Oh, No!"

Captains say "OMG!! No!"

Players say "Triangular match in a single day? WTF, OMG, ROFL, NO!!"

Back to the Drawing Board says "Leave it with me"

Svidler- Carlsen White found a pleasing way to end the game :)

MVL - Keymer The youngster is having rings run around him. No final GM norm now from this tournament

Re: GRENKE Classic

MVL - Vallejo Pons. I'm looking at this game at move 43 currently. And I'm thinking, if Carlsen were sitting either side, we'd be in the process of witnessing the world's first 1000-move game

Re: Media comments on chess

No prizes, though, for spotting what's wrong with the board I am utterly unsurprised by this. Jozef Venglos never knew how to set up Villa either. He took up post in 1990, bringing new-fangled ideas from Europe on playing style, fitness and nutrition. The latter went down especially badly with the ...

Re: 15% markup in ECF transfer fees for World Schools Ch, Turkey

Never mind the mark-up, ask instead why any ENG attended. Our youngsters performed poorly for the most part, presumably miles out of their depth. Again! No other kindred European nations bothered to send players. So 'World Schools Champs' is about as accurate as 'World Series baseball'. Better they ...

Re: Media comments on chess

The Times today carries an interview with Dean Smith , manager of Aston Villa FC. This factoid pops up: Management always appealed, having long been into strategy. “I was an avid chess player, played for the school chess team, we became West Midlands school champions. Write the move down, put on th...

What would your cat have played instead, and why? My cat - she calls herself MoJo by the way - is not entirely sure she's ready to reveal all she knows, not on a public forum anyway. But she did indicate when prompted that she'd have taken a more feline approach, purrhaps playing 56 Kg2 and awaitin...
