A Short Pein exchange

It would seem that Malcolm Pein has Covid. We wish him a safe and rapid recovery of course. Meanwhile, this exchange took place with Nigel Short. Funny at several levels

DO we know when the schedule and pairings will be announced?
Never mind that.

Who is the cheating ECF Arbiter?

And which squads have cheating Captains?

Should we look to no-shows for answers?

Hi Geoff. Just wandering the latest on Alex. Is he out of hospital?
He's doing fine. Not ready to oblige the Forum's coffin-chaser just yet

Re: U.S. Elections 2020

I've been idly following Phil's prospects here for some while. District 1 is a rock-solid REP seat. Yet the local polling has, these past several weeks, been calling it far, far closer than 65-34; never 'too close to call' though. The incumbent, Gaetz, is a rancid piece of work. But clearly, the vot...

if elected, would have rather a large effect on Board deliberations
We can be pretty sure "deliberations" are not all it would have had an effect on

John Clarke did mention in his original post that he had "written about him before in various other threads on this site..." [snip] For what John Clarke wrote earlier, see here
Thanks. I didn't follow the Central YMCA thread. I get the drift, so best leave it there

Re: Robert Chaloner (Bob) Pentecost 1935-2020

RIP - though I never knew him. All the same, RIP. I'm all for characters in our little community; there are plenty of them. Diversity of opinion, and its tolerance, is what makes life liveable. Even the more exotic deserve the kindness of colleagues' thoughts. But I was intrigued by John's comment h...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

It's odd that the infection rates are so much higher across the North of England as compared to the South. Where I live, the rate is currently 4.2 per 100,000 It won't be odd for long. Enjoy the respite while it lasts - two weeks, I'd guess. There'll be no "returning to normal", chesswise or otherw...

Re: Postponement - official

Assuming things will be no better in March-May 2021 does seem highly pessimistic tbh There's a reasonable chance things could be far worse! We're in the early stages of a second wave; or, if you prefer, an intensification of the first wave. The NE has entered quasi-lockdown already; parts of the NW...

Re: Forms of communication?

my main gripe was the incredible meanness of some players in providing a fresh envelope. The same envelope could go to and fro, collecting multiple stamps and postmarks Ah, yes. I remember this well. Multiple postmarks, and the envelope falling to pieces. Times change though. Today you'd be applaud...
