Re: Repercussions / Fallout from FIDE Elections?

I do hope they haven't dumped the Commission on Commissions. That quintessence of FIDE deserves a special place in the bureaucratic Pantheon

I was looking at the top players list on the ECF grading list and noticed that Ian Nepomniatchi has an ECF grade of 299. Has anybody ever surpassed 300 ECF grade?
No. But I plan to

It's at least thinkable - though it ranks below ending climate change, Trump & our terrible Government as a call on my time
Very impressed if you can manage all 3 of those
Made good progress on the last one today :D

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

suggesting that one stalemate is fine to be a draw whereas another is "ludicrous"...is undermining the complexity of the game and the skill of the defending side....one of the Polgar sisters (Susan, I think) ingeniously escaping with a draw against Murray Chandler by tricking him into capturing her...

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

It's only words Absolutely! Or more exactly, entirely artificial rules constructed by words. There's nothing 'natural' or universal about our addictive game of skittles Stalemate = Checkmate is a perfectly good game, just a different game Quite so. Contrary to Nigel's (ever-)scornful critics above,...

Game-inputting & replays

All games for the entire first weekend, for both D1 & D2, were available for replay within forty minutes of the close. What took so long? And with fewer hands available, even D3n games from rd 1 were up by Sat evening

Seriously, it's an astonishing performance. Thanks!

Re: How to improve digital chess clocks

It is indeed the same David Levy whose work on chess - or chess clocks! - is far less interesting than his work and far-sighted thinking in Levy (2007) . I've just finished reading (most of) the essays in Danaher (2017) ; and will shortly start Devlin (2018) . Head-spinning stuff. Sure beats ploughi...

In their opinion, yes. Am I missing something? Yes. You're missing my point. I can read that it's their opinion . I even know that at least one of them is a vastly experienced and well-respected Arbiter; hence, whose opinion reasonably carries weight. But that still leaves it as 'opinion' - to be c...
