Re: Games worth a look - weekend 2

Player of the Weekend Dan Bisby I watched Bisby's Saturday game, 'live', and thought his energetic take-down of Jack Rudd was exemplary. Enough to earn himself a night on the team Bisby - Rudd 1-0 But only now do I see that his Sunday demolition of Jon Speelman was even better! Startling stuff. If ...

Re: 2017 King Salman World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 26-30 December 2017

Arab countries think the Israelis have done wrong - by existing. I think that is generally where people go wrong, countries don't think they just exist, so you should never attribute a thought to a country (or race), it is individuals that think A sovereign power - an overwhelming authority; a mono...

Manchester United - chesswise, apparently

No problems in Manchester, chess-wise. All sweetness and light :-P

Big props to Alan Walton (& others) at 3Cs in this slow newsday piece, but still good

Re: NCCU CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2017-18

Not "dedicated" , Ihor, bonkers, a definition of which is doing the same thing repeatedly, and expecting a different result. But here's a thought: why not do something different; apply some lateral thinking. At the next meeting, agree to suspend all activity by the NCCU for a period of five years. L...

Re: NCCU CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2017-18

Indeed, my comment is "calm and reasonable" . I have others to help you too. Look at the facts, the evidence . This event has been all washed up for at least two decades. The clubs don't want it because the players don't want it. The only people who want it are on the NCCU committee. And who do they...

Re: NCCU CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2017-18

It's an utterly pointless event - the most moribund of dead sheep. It's principal function is to give the zombies of the NCCU Committee some reason to exist after all other reasons have been exhausted

Re: White Rabbits

I didn't reply because I didn't understand Kevin's question. He asked: "am I the only one (who doesn't know that 'White Rabbits' is said on the 1st of each month)"? It's the wrong problem. "White Rabbits" is not said on the 1st of every month. It's said on the 1st of March. On the 1st of every other...

Re: 2017 King Salman World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 26-30 December 2017

I believe that Karparov had the edge. Not much in it, but I give the crown to Kasparov for his attacking brilliance and opening preparation And without begrudging or denying Carlsen's own variety of brilliance, so would most thoughtful players. Kasparov played chess in a style - and was committed t...

Re: 2017 King Salman World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 26-30 December 2017

Anyhow, never mind the silly chess. On with the politics!! Here's what Gary Kasparov has to say about Inarkievgate TEXT STARTS A disgraceful incident at the FIDE World Blitz Championship on Friday. Russian GM Inarkiev, in a losing position against world champion Magnus Carlsen, made an illegal move ...

A 4/4 start for Magnus today to wipe out the two point deficit and leave him as 1st or 1st= with six rounds to go.
