Re: British Knock out December 2018

Meanwhile, in another place, for another thread (sigh), MVL has trounced Aronian to go through; while Nakamura just needs a half to dump Caruana (I think!)

Re: British Knock out December 2018

You need to do more homework, Christopher!

McShane isn't through yet. He's only +8  If Adams wins all the blitz, it'll go to Armageddon. Meanwhile, Jones is +2. No, I don't understand either

Have we ceased caring here?

McShane (Black) just mated Adams on d7 a short while back. Not an everyday event

Leonard Barden - a warm Guardian tribute

Looking out for a hero!, the Guardian tips its hat to 63 years of Bardenprose: 3276 columns, and then some.

Brilliant and irreplaceable dedication from LB. Long may it continue!

Game 12 drawn in 29 moves
In 29? Really? I'm looking at 31. But anyway, draw. And the entire patzersphere is WTF-ing and squawking its head off

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

the odds for a draw every day it would be 1.2 to the power of 12 so about 9.00 which is 8/1 Pfft! No wonder bookies get rich. At 8/1 for a binary choice of draw/not-draw (even where not-draw is active in two directions) over a 12-sequence, it must tell us something about chess at this level. Other ...

Carlsen-Karjakin, I think, is the record holder (both 26 when they contested the 2016 match)
Good grief! I just ploughed back a century through my memory vaults - and forgot the last match!

Re: Repercussions / Fallout from FIDE Elections?

Hmmm I assume this holding FIDE statement on the World Rapid and Blitz World Championships means that there are negotiations still going on with Saudi Arabia. If not, then given the wording of the statement, it perhaps is some other country with which many will have issues? Unusually with Sutovsky ...

Eurosport pick up the World Championship rights and chess is back on TV!
