Re: Chess Put Forward To Join Paris 2024 Olympic Games

There are five people in my household. All play chess. But only one is a chess-player. All can ride a bike too. But none is a cyclist.

Don't think these surveys get us very far until they decide what they're measuring

Wonder how Lancashire managed to Get a IM on top board? Does he lives in Lancashire?
If he doesn't live in Lancashire, he shouldn't be eligible to play

Re: Chess Put Forward To Join Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The French will probably opt for pétanque d'échecs. This hugely popular regional game involves lobbing heavily-weighted pieces down the board. Injuries can occur - strains, sprains and some bruising. But Arbiters generally recover

You also get people wandering off when it's their move
This can happen. Just gently steer them away from busy roads, and back to the board

Re: State of Chess: How much money is in the sport?

Hhmm...there's more to it than this. To take one example, by no means at random: Mickey Adams. He's listed way down at €9,300 earnings last year. I'm sure that's true if they say so. But that's just Mickey's prize money . As big a cost for any tournament, possibly a bigger cost in many cases, is con...

Re: Division Two 2018-19

The second phase Pools clarified a little today. Pool 2A is fully resolved: Spirit of Atticus will head the group, barring a calamitous and improbable reversal in rd 7. They'll be accompanied into the promotion pool by Anglian Avengers, KJCA Kings and Barnet Knights Pool 2B is less resolved: Barbica...

Re: Should the ECF have accepted sponsorship from the Scheinbergs for the World Team Championships 2019?

I'd have thought the Scheinberg sponsorship would merit at least some pause for thought, including a view from the Governance Committee I don't expect that they would take very long to form a view I fear you're right. But it depends how much due diligence they're willing to undertake. Given that so...

ECF ought to agree sponsorship with anyone I trust you are nowhere near membership of the Governance Committee. Your position is not merely "morally dubious", as if it were solely a matter of differing ethical judgements. It would in certain circumstances invite ECF to enter unlawful transactions. ...
