Frodsham Congress 1 - 3 February 2019

This year’s congress took place at Frodsham Community Centre on 1st.-3rd. February, with 94 players. This was somewhat lower than in recent years, perhaps because of the problems of snow and ice in some parts of the country. The FIDE-rated Open was won jointly by Oliver Jackson (for the second time)...

Frodsham Congress Report and Results

This year’s congress (the 14th) took place at Frodsham Community Centre on 3rd-5th February, with 100 players. Re: 13th Frodsham Congress 5th-7th February

Bob - I was also there as a spectator. One of our club members, Chris Plaisted, then a promising junior, played Kasparov, and another member, David Curtis, played Cathy Forbes. My recollection is that each club affiliated to C&NWCA was invited to nominate a player - presumably one for each simul.

Re: 13th Frodsham Congress 5th-7th February

Bob - I think you are right, and I wrote somewhere else that Robert won. My bad memory. Were you there? The simul was actually played sometime in 1989. Unfortunately the Cheshire & North Wales records covering that era have been lost. I had mis-remembered that Kasparov lost only to Dave Tebb, but ac...

Re: 13th Frodsham Congress 5th-7th February

Yes indeed, son of the fondly-remembered Richard Furness. Robert drew with Kaspararov as a junior in the simul at Chester to celebrate the Cheshire & North Wales Centenary in 1988. He has started to play again in the Warrington and District League after a long lay-off.

Frodsham Congress 2014

There was a record entry of 132 players taking part in this year’s Congress on 7th-9th February at Frodsham Community Centre, in spite of the clash with the 4NCL Division 3 weekend at Buxton. The outright winner of the Under 210 section was Jim Burnett (Doncaster), conceding just one draw, half a ...

Re: NCCU and the MCF

As Cheshire & North Wales rep, I found it very useful to hear what the MCF had to say.

We were assured that the non-attendance of Lancashire was unrelated to the MCF attendance.

Frodsham Congress report

The Congress took place on 8th-10th February at Frodsham Community Centre. There were 125 players this year, a substantial increase on the usual number of around 100 – could this really have been because St. Valentine’s Day falls closer to the following weekend? The Major was won by Mike Surtees...
