Re: London Chess League

I was referring to the standard practice of many websites these days (and not just those where you input vital statistics/financial details) of redirecting any requests made using http: protocol to https: protocol. You have the choice of visiting the web site either with encrypted request submissio...

Re: also available on cassette...

I've attempted to persuade Mike to digitise his Audio Chess library and make them available on YouTube.

As you may know, MJB regards computers as the "spawn of the devil" and therefore won't do that.

Re: Racist terminology in chess problems

In much the same way, I can see that "night watchman" will upset some cricket fans as sexist Can we remind ourselves that we are discussing a term sufficiently loaded with meaning that it was employed for inflammatory effect in a racist speech still notorious half a century later. People should may...

I agree with the decision to replace the headstone. The original wording only distracted from the message.
How would you answer the comments of historian James Holland?

Re: Times obits

Indeed. I didn't know Hamilton had been a senior M16 officer. When I asked him what he did he said he'd worked for the Foreign Office... That surprises me. I was the under the impression that MI6 / SIS employees freely handed out business cards listing "Secret Service" as their primary occupation.

Re: Under Statement?

Zeticula Ltd. would appear to be a one person (Stuart Johnston) operation located at 11 Swaledale Road, Sheffield, England, S7 2BY The other eight persons have resigned and it is regarded as a micro-entity. See https://www.bookdepository.com/publishers/Zeticula-Ltd for their back catalogue. I wasn't...

Re: Racist terminology in chess problems

I don't know if fairy has caused concern. It seems to me unlikely, since it is word that one would not assume to be offensive without some context. I recall it being used in pejorative sense in school playgrounds in the 1970s. Maybe it has fallen out of use in that context? Similarly spastic was us...

Have there been attempts to remove the term "fairy" from the world of chess problems?

Re: Under Statement?

I am indebted to leading chess historian Richard Eales Is he married to your sister, Ray, you don't mention it here In 2014 I wrote this brief note: https://sgchess.net/2014/10/09/1276-more-cronyism. On page 62 of   Fifty Shades of Ray , Raymond Keene refers categorically to "the world's leading ch...
