Re: What are the safeguards ?
Thanks to Chrisopher for his explanation of how the Bookmark command works. This feature has been unchanged for a couple of years, and there are no plans to change things. However in the light comments in this thead I will review the Bookmark procedure to see if it can be made functional for more we...

Re: Yorkshire grading system
At the Yorkshire Chess Association AGM yeaterday, Steve Mann was elected to succeed me as Yorkshire Hon.Grader. I wish him every success. Due to advancing years I am winding down the chessnuts website. After publishing the July 2018 Yorkshire Grading List, the chessnuts database will stop grading, a...

Re: ECF Grading Database website URL links
Thank you readers for explaining how to navigate the website. All the links are coloured red, so clicking anything red goes somewhere or does something. Richard Haddrell believed in copious help pages, but my hope is that "click-it-and-see" is an attractive way for users to teach themselves to navig...

Re: Problems Accessing the ECF Grading Database?
The grading website suffered crashes in January, May and June, with a total downtime of 20 hours. These failures have been due to excessive peaks in page requests. Our normal load is under 10,000 pages per day. In January an infected computer (not ours) demanded 80,000 pages. In late May an unknown ...

Re: Problems Accessing the ECF Grading Database?
The grading website crashed several times yesterday. I restored it twice, but it was down again overnight. The cause was probably too many live page requests at the same time. The restore was slow because of the bank holiday. The site is now working again, but I have had to cut out the "games" and "...

Re: Membership database online?
ECF Memberships are now shown in the Yorkshire Grading List http://www.chessnuts.org.uk I asked if I could do this. No-one objected. They like you to acknowledge ECF copyright. I put it there by 1 Download the xls 2 Save it as csv 3 LOAD DATA INFILE to MySQL If you have done this already, John, plea...

Re: Summary of Funding Proposals for AGM
The Yorkshire CA will oppose the new ECF Funding Proposals. Here's why: In the 2010-11 season, there were 415 players in the Yorkshire League. Of these, 129 (31%) were Members of the ECF. Of the total 2,382 results, 1,546 (65%) were played by non-members. The Association paid about £835 game-fees t...

Re: Future Grading Systems
The full spec of the grading method, and some comments are here
http://www.chessnuts.org.uk/ny5/Rulesof ... ading.html
I would be happy to discuss the method, but perhaps we should start a separate thread.

Future Grading Systems I have been developing the chessnuts grading website for the Yorkshire CA for the last five years. http://www.chessnuts.org.uk The objectives of chessnuts are broader than the previous grading system: Grading - more frequent grade updates Access - all data on open web pages Ne...
