And also the "de facto" WC decider that was the final Karpov-Korchnoi game in 1974.

And discuss whether there is a correlation between chess ability and mathematics ability?
The consensus seems to be that there is to a fairly limited degree. But nowhere near as much as many non-players imagine.

Blackburne played lots of simuls, didn't he? Those must have added up a fair bit over the years.

Re: Plaskett and Woffinden's book on the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" Fraud

I suppose this is as good a place as any to observe that Bob Woffinden, noted investigative journalist, has sadly passed away.

Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election?

Possibly not the best use of a person's time to fret about Nigel abolishing the stalemate rule when Nigel has promised to abolish so much more, starting with that tottering pile of secrecy, incompetence and self-reproducing bureaucracy called FIDE. He's called for the dismissal of the entire Kirsan...

Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election?

Am I really alone in seeing Short's stated support for changing the stalemate rule as an important obstacle to supporting his candidacy?

(indeed, how many of those who have rushed to support him - here and elsewhere - are even aware of it)

In above, it should, of course, read 'Russian' not as inadvertently written late at night 'Soviet' veterans association. If editor can change this and delete this post, as I'm now too late to do this, I'd be grateful!

Pretty sure he was the oldest GM still playing actively.

Another link to the great days of Soviet chess leaves us, a sad loss.

Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election?

You would prefer a continuation of the Kirsan presidency then? If the Macko- and Nigel tickets end up splitting the anti-Kirsan vote... Indeed. And to pick up on Roger's comments about Nigel playing chess, it is not just playing in the Olympiad that might have to be curtailed. Would Nigel have any ...

Are they really?

My own local club (Barrow) is in a Brexit-friendly area, I can think of maybe one or two regulars who *might* have voted for them.

Re: Yorkshire grading system

I find the whole reason/motivation for the original split utterly baffling In the early days of national, as opposed to regional, grading, there was a year when the NCCU contrived not to send many or any results to the BCF. That may have persuaded Yorkshire to set up their own in house system. It a...
