Nick is older than most of us.

The strongest young player I have played at 5 or 6 was Luke McShane

"Like it or not, those guys are star performers from a very early age."

I more or less agree, but there are exceptions. It seems Lasker didn't even learn to play until he was 11 years old!
Chigorin didn't learn until he was 18 or something similarly ridiculous?

ٌWhat does
"I should concentrate on the centre, exchanging my 'bad' bishop" mean?

What's the difference between a "plus" and an "advantage"?
Very much the same thing!

What's the difference between
I should play blah blah blah
and
I must play blah blah blah
?
If you MUST play something, the implication is that harm will befall your position if you do not. "Should" is probably not as strong.

Re: Director of Women's Chess

--Text omitted-- The reference to "nerdy men" also chimes with me as I've spoken to several women who have spoken of most men chess players being seemingly devoid of almost all social skills. Which is why we're drawn to chess - a social activity requiring silence. More should be done to sell the ga...

The way the list is structured it shouldn't include Jane Richmond as she also qualifies as a former British Women's champion.
She was known as Jane Garwell back then, of course.

Re: Should the FIDE voting system be reformed and if so how?

FIDE is an international federation whose members are themselves federations, a formulation which avoids a lot of problems. FIDE introduced a rule some while back that it was necessary for a territory to be eligible to compete in Olympics under its own name for its Federation to become a FIDE membe...

I was bemused by Maradona's comments about Neymar's
diving. The biggest cheater ever in football was obviously upset that argentina were not able to cheat their way through 2018!
Interesting, but perhaps slightly off topic? ;)

I think it was Larsen who said that GMs should only resign when even a fairly weak club player can understand why.

The late Charles Krauthammer on his chess addiction.
Maybe he should have spent more time on chess and less on promulgating neoconservative dogma.
