Re: Time Control Notation
If you look at TWIC, you can see how Mark does it e.g., Hastings Masters TC: 100:50:15+30spm(1), Hastings Open TC:110m+10spm, Tata Steel TC: 100: 50:15+30spm(1), Airthings Masters TC:15m+3spm., Rilton Cup TC:90m:30m+30spm(1), Rilton Cup Match TC:45m+10spm, Swedish Blitz TC:3m+2spm Thanks Mick, Alth...

Re: Time Control Notation
The USCF attempt to explain it in Chapter 1, Section 5 of their Rule Book (on page 19). I don't know whether their nomenclature is universally accepted outside the USA. Thanks for this Ian. Its a good start. It has this as a guide: 40/90 SD/30 inc/30 Regular 40/120 SD/60 d/5 Regular 40/115 SD/60 d/...

Re: Time Control Notation
I'm not exactly sure what the question is here - are you trying to determine which time controls count as bullet, blitz, rapid, classical ? No I'm trying to learn how to write the time controls in shorthand. e.g. 40 moves in 2 hours plus 50 minutes plus 30 second increment from move one could be wr...

Time Control Notation
Hi all, I was wondering what the correct shorthand methodology is to describe all the various time controls there are. I know G90 for example is all moves in 90 minutes, but I start getting muddled when there is x moves in y minutes, second time control, increments and where they should all appear i...

Chess Computer Repairer Wanted
Hi all, It's been a while since I was on here, but now that I'm back I have a request from the community. Does anyone repair or know of anyone who can repair a Chess Computer. The one where you have a proper board and press the pieces down to play a move? Our Club Chairman and Honorary Life Member -...

Re: British Championship Congress 2022
Well the Schedule is out at last. But a bit disappointing for some players in the Rated sections, which are set in the same bands for both weeks and a Weekender with an Open, then a big drop to U1700 (nee 133) and U1500 (nee 107). The blurb refers to rating bands down to U1600, but the Schedule str...

Re: British Championship Congress 2022
Some 3 months since an update to the British Chess Championships calendar. Those of us looking to enter the graded sections are left in limbo unable to know what week we are in. If they don't get their act together sharpish there won't be any graded sections players as there will be nowhere viable ...

Re: The July 2015 Grading List
ECF Grading site is down as of 13:45 The performance of the grading site on the new server is vastly improved however I would like to see the awkward URL being tidied up. Picky yes but still correct  Agreed. It is very fast now so good job whoever is responsible! Next step is to allow sorting...

Re: British 2015 Round by Round
Apologies for posting on the chess rather than the pairings  but I have confirmation that Akshaya's convincing win over John Cooper yesterday was indeed her first IM scalp in rated chess. I think that both the result and the game deserve more attention that they seem so far to have received. ...

Re: Chess Limericks
I think that deserves a "hmmm". You've totally lost me there. If I get time i'll visit a dictionary!John McKenna wrote:About time I made an effort -
Composing a witty quintain
Addled many a left-sided brain,
Made poets quite sick
Of the form limerick,
But quatrains - they feel right as rain.

There was a chess forum online

How wrong could they be
When all came to see
Their clocks had all run out of time

Re: Limericks & Behaviour In Chess Teams
Before a move is made I always go for a win. Why play otherwise? Depending on how the game goes I may change that to aim to a draw. However, as a captain there are times when a draw is sufficient for the team. I will somehow communicate that to my player (without breaking the rules!) usually by show...
