Re: European Online Chess Club Cup 2021
Bit scary that a club with Vachier- Lagraive, Rapport, Bacrot, Shirov, and Naiditsch could finish 6th out of 6 in Guildford's group. I bet their club nights must've been popular pre- Covid.

Re: Banter Blitz Cup Final - Carlsen v Firouzja 6pm Wed 15 Apr
Bit of a surprise winner, but well deserved. I watched the video with Alireza commentating, and was surprised how badly Magnus seemed to play (relative to his usual playing standard). I think there was only a couple of games where his play was impressive to me. Having said all that, the fact that he...

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020
I'm not sure Giri has ever had 4 decisive results in one tournament.

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020
Anyone fancy making some predictions?
Winner?
Will the tournament complete all the rounds?
Will anyone get 14 draws?
Will Alekseenko get a win?

I'm sure I read somewhere someone once played 1. Ng3 by mistake in 1st round of a rapidplay, and as it was an illegal move....

Not every day you see a 2700+ player finish 114th in a swiss.

Re: Old Chestnut
Had forgotten about Dorset- based players playing for Wessex (sorry!), but is it correct to say that no-one from Dorset is captaining?
No Gloucs- based players in West is Best to best of my knowledge. Certainly none of them are captaining a West is Best team rather then the county team.

Re: Old Chestnut
I think Gloucestershire & Dorset work as examples. No Gloucs/ Dorset- based NCL captain and no county team because they can't find a captain.

Re: What if a player falls ill....
I don't think the rule is needed at all, because ... well, surely any decent human being would do this sort of thing anyway? Does it really need to be written down? Are arbiters really so mean-spirited that we need to write in the Laws that if a player is suffering a heart attack, we're not going t...

Re: Tables : http://www.4ncl.co.uk/data/tables_1819.htm
Why don’t people contact the 4NCL direct on such things? Does it improve their own self-esteem by publicising other people’s (usually hard working volunteers’) perceived shortcomings? Shame there's not a 'like' option on here. For what its worth I think the ncl volunteers/ paid workers do a great j...

Biggest winning margin
Whats the biggest winning margin ever managed by a team @ ncl? Noticed a team in Div 4 won 6 - -3 yesterday, wondering if a team has ever had a bigger winning margin then 9?

Re: Development Officer Proposal Paper - Discuss
Haven't had a chance to read this yet, but one comment about the Development Officer from one of the leagues I represent: "How much of this is going to be a person telling us what to do, and us doing the work? They could just give us the money to fund ideas we have, seeing as we're the ones paying ...
