Re: An ECF action plan for resuming over the board chess

e) As was noted in the other thread, the first scheduled over the board event has been organised by the ECF CEO, albeit in a private capacity. An outdoor Chess Festival, organised by Chess in Schools and Communities, has been announced for 16th to 18th July. Again, this is not an ECF event, but sev...

Re: Events in 2021

IOM International are hoping to hold a Major & Minor alongside the Grand Swiss but waiting on developments. Late Oct / Early Nov A decision will be taken during the summer as to whether the Grand Swiss can proceed as scheduled. If it does not, then it is almost certain that the Major and Minor Tour...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

IoM reopening businesses on Monday 19 April The question for the Grand Swiss is when they reopen their borders to visitors. Indeed, but they seem to be progressing with vaccination faster than us, so maybe their target date of September to reopen their borders will be met https://www.bbc.co.uk/news...

Nepo Black against Ding on the last day when he is under huge pressure and Ding is not puts me in mind of the 2013 finish.
Fatigue undoubtedly played a part on that day. Owing to the peculiar circumstances, it should be far less of an issue this time.

Re: Reports from Direct Members' representatives

If Tim Wall, or one of his supporters, feels he can do a better CEO job than Mike Truran then the right course is to put this to the electorate. I'll grant his point that any incumbent has a built-in advantage but that's true of all elections and to suggest, as Tim has done, that the situation is c...

Re: Reports from Direct Members' representatives

Quick update: So far, I have received 30 replies to the report I sent to Silver Members. 28 (93%) fully supportive, 1 half-and-half, and 1 against. How depressing. Nevertheless, I await with interest the policy proposals of those who are actually prepared to do something and challenge incumbent Dir...

Re: Reports from Direct Members' representatives

So, here goes, my report in advance of the April 2021 Finance Council. Buckle up, folks, because this is a fairly blunt one and you may want to be sitting down when you read it. So, here goes: I don't agree with everything which the ECF Directors and the other principal Officers have done over the ...

Re: ECF Finance Meeting 2021 on 24th April 2021

I think there are documents for the meeting still to be published such as the Finance Committee's report. The Report of the Chairman of the Finance Committee was published a few days ago. https://www.englishchess.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Report-of-the-Finance-Committee-Chairman-to-ECF-Fina...

I was trying to use Nalimov but (not for the first time recently) the board on their site refused to materialise
I had the same problem. I think that modern browsers reject the Nalimov board as unsafe.

Re: Improve Your Life by Playing a Game

I was intrigued by, "Chapter 6, Theories and Studies on Benefits of Chess’, moves into rather different territory. We learn about chess and education, and about chess and health problems, though I for one would raise a very strong objection to describing ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder as health ...

Re: Takeback requests in online games

Qd6+ is not a losing blunder and still keeps the win on the board, but it misses mate in one. ---- As Black I might resign before answering The position looks bust, drop it and start again. (After Qd6+ what did Black play. Kd8! ) Black, Richard James, played ... Kf7, and is still in the game. I pla...

Re: Takeback requests in online games

Black blunders with ... Nd7. White plays Qd6+, then asks for a takeback on the grounds that it was a mouseslip and he was in the act of playing Qxd7 Mate. Consider your reaction to this request. My reaction would be that Qd6+ is a very plausible move and not at all the kind of thing we are thinking...
