This tournament is surreal.
Seems to be true today on boards 7 and 8 - currently not only an interesting position on both boards at move 19, but also the same position.

Re: World Youth Championships

It seems really low this year, from a number of countries - not just England, so for example France are also only sending 3, it was the fact that no girls were going that caught my eye.

Re: Finals 13 July 2019 @ Kettering

First some context - Plymouth (Devon's largest city) is more than 250 miles from Kettering. Even the furthest small outposts of Lancashire and Yorkshire are around the 175 mile mark, and of course the vast majority of their players would be a lot closer than that. The rules allow the nomination of ...

Re: New National Blitz event

Given there will be quite a few players in Paignton would it be feasible to hold an extra blitz qualifier in or near there from about 4pm (or whatever time the main open is likely to finish)?

Slightly off topic, but what about Fire Alarm breaks? There's little alternative to stopping the clocks and leaving the room.
One alternative I can think of is not stopping the clocks and leaving the room if you can see smoke and flames.

Re: 15% markup in ECF transfer fees for World Schools Ch, Turkey

If I have calculated correctly recent World Schools results were 2018 8 players average score 4.31, 2016 no Eng players, 2015 8 players average score 3.62 2017 I think 1 player average score 4.5 but maybe I missed some as I couldn't find on chess results - only here https://chessinschool.ro/results/...

Re: World Senior Team Championships Rhodes 2019

I think there is not really any such thing as a first "really serious" tournament, other than maybe the first tournament that someone plays in. There are just tournaments appropriate to a players standard and those that are inappropriate. Whilst it may not be necessary to travel that far its like co...

Re: World Senior Team Championships Rhodes 2019

I think the above posts are in the wrong thread. It is worth pointing out that with a K of 40 a few under rated juniors can cause huge points loss (so for example Botswana lost 416.40 between 5 of them, Ukraine had only 2 players who lost a total of 114 points (they were seeds 1 and 4) . The pattern...
