Re: Covid-19 - Suspend Chess Immediately

My instinct is that at the moment the government are not trying to totally restrict the number of cases, but instead using policies which allow them to increase (particularly in certain age groups) at a rate such that panic is minimised until the number of positive tests reaches somewhere in the reg...

Re: World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2019

Round 19 of the blitz - Magnus shows the power of the bishop, winning when he just has a king and bishop, sometimes the rules don't seem the best :(

There are really two pos...

So the qualifier for the KO event is an all-play-all?

I think that's a no given 16 players and 9 rounds.

This tournament is surreal.
Seems to be true today on boards 7 and 8 - currently not only an interesting position on both boards at move 19, but also the same position.

Re: World Youth Championships

It seems really low this year, from a number of countries - not just England, so for example France are also only sending 3, it was the fact that no girls were going that caught my eye.

Re: Finals 13 July 2019 @ Kettering

First some context - Plymouth (Devon's largest city) is more than 250 miles from Kettering. Even the furthest small outposts of Lancashire and Yorkshire are around the 175 mile mark, and of course the vast majority of their players would be a lot closer than that. The rules allow the nomination of ...

Re: New National Blitz event

Given there will be quite a few players in Paignton would it be feasible to hold an extra blitz qualifier in or near there from about 4pm (or whatever time the main open is likely to finish)?

Slightly off topic, but what about Fire Alarm breaks? There's little alternative to stopping the clocks and leaving the room.
One alternative I can think of is not stopping the clocks and leaving the room if you can see smoke and flames.
