Tough start for them both, but presumably Chessbomb is wrong in suggesting that Matthew lost round two? (Or did it mix up his game with someone else's?)
Not sure chess results and chess24 also show a loss - suspect it could be on time if it is correct :(

Re: World Junior 5 to 16 September 2018

Mathew live on board 1, so not the easiest of starts, but not a bad draw either - good luck to both.

Re: Director of Women's Chess

I was talking about either females in the female rankings or males (or females) in the overall rankings so the answers 1) Highest ranked Harriet Hunt (33) 2) Top five Harriet Hunt, Michael Adams, Matthew Sadler, David Howell, Jovanka Houska So relative to the rest of the female chess players in the ...

Re: Director of Women's Chess

I noticed above there was some discussion about role models - let me ask a couple of questions:

1) who is currently our highest ranked player in terms of world ranking?
2) Who are currently our top 5 ranked players?

Re: Director of Women's Chess

The way the list is structured it shouldn't include Jane Richmond as she also qualifies as a former British Women's champion.

Re: Director of Women's Chess

Sarah and Akshaya already qualify though as former champions, so the positive discrimination is not so huge even if it might appear so by reading the regulations.

Re: Director of Women's Chess

Here is an example of sexism in chess from British Championship Qualifying Regulations. "5 – FIDE Masters rated 2300 or higher on the rating list published on 1st July, 2017 6 – Women’s FIDE Masters rated 2100 or higher on the rating list published on 1st July, 2017" That's positive discrimination ...

Re: Director of Women's Chess

It hadn't occurred to me, prior to this message, to seek a non-playing captain of that team and nobody suggested it to me. The event starts 7 July. It's very late. But should I contact Jovanka, satisfying everybody? The answer must surely be based on the following: 1) Would the funding be available...

Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

Kevin, no not all - I would argue that all the players at that rating are paying a higher entry fee and so deserve a shot at a grading prize. but the people that are below that don't have any chance of winning and I'm asked the ECF to either change the grading prize to include 2050 and under or do ...
