Re: Grade File Checker

Steve,

I suspect that the issue is that something has happened to your club/master list files rather than any of the other things that have been mentioned here. I would suggest that you download these again and try checking the file again. Feel free to contact me directly as per Angus's suggestion.

Re: july grades

Hi Anthony, What seems to have happened is that the internal games at a number of Sussex clubs including Brighton, Horsham, Chichester and Bognor played between January and June are all on the system but they haven't gone through as graded. Other competitions like league games, county games and con...

Re: The plans for the Grading System

So, my tendency to paranoia (and long years of experience!) forces me to ask again, is this the intention? Is the ECF LMS intended as the only route that will be available for direct submission of results to the Grading system? (And, perhaps, is the ECF trying to drive LMS, other than its (proposed...

Re: The plans for the Grading System

I'm not going to get drawn into this too much, but the current ECF central grading system was introduced for the 2002/3 season, and is written in Microsoft Visual Basic v6 and uses a Microsoft Access database. As I am unable to install the development environment on anything later than Windows Vista...

Re: Dramatic changes in congress performances

If you run the same enquiry on rapid play events, I believe you would find just as many with a similar inconsistency of results. You may believe that, but in fact you don't - he would appear to have never scored more than 50% in a rapidplay event. I should also have mentioned that the above list is...

Re: Dramatic changes in congress performances

Has anyone actually analysed the results? I append some data from the grading database. Score includes byes with known results for Congresses. Results total only for non-Congress events. Perf is grading performance in the event Results is round by round results for congresses only. figures in paren...

Re: Estimating White's Advantage

Analysis of the ECF grading database reveals, for games in which colours were given:

White wins - 384269 (40.83%)
Draws - 217610 (23.12%)
Black wins - 339235 (36.05%)
Total - 941114

So White score 52.39% in total.

Re: Southend

I wasn't present at this event, but the score sheets have landed on my desk. They don't help much. Both players gave up scoring around move 75. The arbiter's incomplete notes allow me to extend this to move 88, but the material remaining then is still R+B+N v R+N+2P. [Event "Southend Open"] [Date "2...

Re: ENG FIDE Ratings must be ECF Members

I hope there's no question of anyone who has paid the membership subscription being de-activated from the FIDE rating list simply because (s)he hasn't signed the white form.. No attention has been paid as to whether the white form has been signed when deciding who should be de-activated. With regar...

Quite probably. I've changed his DoB on FIDE's database to that on the ECF grading database - which is a couple of decades earlier. He initially played in some Italian tournaments who gave his DoB as 1st Jan 2000.

Re: No more e2e4 events?!

Why do I rate the events as one rating report per section? This is my interpretation of the FIDE reporting requirements (given at http://ratings.fide.com/download/Fidexchg.txt ) This format is essentially a cross table, and it strikes me as only a matter of time before these cross tables are readily...

Re: 2nd London Chess Classic 2010

'm told the Moscow Open of 2007 also featured it. They even appear to have offered a schedule where you could play one day of rapidplay (4 rounds) and then 5 "normal" rounds. http://www.2007.moscowchessopen.ru/pre/org.html is the webpage. You need to be able to read Russian or have the Google trans...

Re: Timeline of British Isles titles (1950-2010)

I can confirm that Jessie Gilbert didd not achieved the 2200+ rating required to be awarded the WIM title. You can apply for a title without having achieved the required rating level, but very few people do this. John Richardson is the only other person that I am aware of to have done this. FIDE do ...
