Re: Div 3 North 2017 - 18

I'll have you know that Mrs Truran's Mushroom Risotto has featured regularly on the Witney Chess Club annual dinner menu for a number of years now. :D

"Justice Good and True" (Heinrich Fraenkel, AKA Assiac).

Fraenkel is in no doubt: "...... the Professor, so far from being a master at chess, would seem to be a master at sophistry rather than at logic".

Re: Xenophobic abuse in British chess in the post-Brexit world

Alex Holowczak and I have reviewed the case in question. Past custom and practice from before the ECF moved to a universal membership system, but which as far as we can see does not seem to be have been formally documented, has been not to require ECF Gold membership for players from or resident in ...

Re: Chess history trivia

No games between them turn up in either the chessgames.com or ChessBase databases :?:
The 8th Soviet Championship bulletin apparently only includes 46 games. Presumably the game in question (plus most of the other games from the event) have been lost.

Duz-Khotimirsky.

Re: To grade or not to grade

Six out of nine games drawn in fewer than 25 moves.

Really?!

Why would sponsors or (paying spectators) pay good money for that?

So what do they have to lose? Apart from the cost of the visa itself, maybe also the cost of paying (at least deposits) for the flights and accommodation for which they would probably have to submit receipts as proof of intent as part of the visa application. Plus, why apply for a visa just to make...
