Re: Update on Project?
Fergus, Good to hear from you, however I have to take issue with your post. This forum has been accused of taking "the glass is half empty approach" and I appreciate the earlier fanfares and subsequent failure to produce results hasn't exactly marked this program for glory - however Holloid entered ...

Re: New Site
To be honest it's a good start but I would not have turned it live in it's current state - the old BCF link needs to be redirected and some TLC is needed in places to bring it online Carl, I couldn't agree more. This looks rushed, with the Holloid statement and some other fluff to make it look good...

Re: A Vision for the Future
I don't understand how my position of not publishing grades for non members is any different at all from the current game fee scheme where, if you dont pay game fee, you dont get your game graded?! I don't see how as a player I get the chance to not pay game fee? If I go to a congress it's included...

Re: A Vision for the Future
(with the proviso that only members get their games graded) Well this is the bit I really object to! I don't see this as workable at all, this opens up a complete can of worms in itself. By all means come in with a £10 membership level, but I rather suspect the gain in membership fees will be equa...

Re: A Vision for the Future
William We need to find something to replace gamefee its expensive to collect thats if the ecf acually do collect all the gamefee due to it I dissagree, I think Game Fee is great. It looks like the EBU is going down this route as well. I agree it is expensive and like Sean Hewitt said in other posts...

Re: Board Meeting : Saturday, January 10th 2009
I think the Chess for Schools Project was a Dunkirk moment for English Chess. I guess the sad part is that given the need to make something like this work the ECF was unable to galvanise its various factions and the chess community in general together to solve such a huge project. This is the bigges...

Re: Lack of chess sets is not the problem
Titled players get free/reduced entry to virtually everything, make each volunteer a handful of times a year for this privilege. Titled players provide Norm opportunities in events. I think the current system of free entry/reduced entry is reasonable enough. Also how could you treat English titled ...

Re: Latest sets production solution
Charles, Interesting post, reveals quite a few home truths in my opinion! But I managed to keep the Sponsor who was in charge of me in place right until a competitor became my boss. I have still have no problem with IM Andrew Martin but the Renaissance Academy Board and Potential Board do have probl...

Re: Questions for the 16th
Please note that the ECF Office will be closed from 24 December to 4 January inclusive . I guess we now have to hope that Chris Majer will post on here personally for the latest on his visit. However I can only suspect it is bad news, else it would presumably have been up on the main ECF website by...

Re: Coaching
All this CRB stuff has been quite interesting but seems to be totally irrelevant in many ways. For instance: 1. The ECF require a CRB Check. This is fine but what does this effectively mean? It's of no use to go into a School because they will require, quite rightly and by Law to do their own check....

Re: Coaching
John, You have quoted my name on Steve Henderson's post. Let me get something very clear that I have no connection or affiliation with ChessPod whatsoever. It was just put up as an example of what is currently available. Of course Richard James is also involved with an Internet Learning resource for...

Re: Coaching
William, Sorry your arguments are pretty weak. If someone is appointed a Director of a specific area then he must be allowed to direct and not have to organise committees to appoint two people for a contract. I don't think going out to tender requires a committee. Advertise the job, invite tenders w...

Re: UK Chess Challenge in Trouble?
Do we know the specifics of these concerns? I don't know the specifics of this as I got this second hand so to speak, however it is not rumour, it is very substantial in nature. There is nothing on the UK Chess Challenge website so I was wondering if anybody else could expand on this. Are they simp...

UK Chess Challenge in Trouble?
I understand a few counties are unhappy with the arrangements with the commercial arm of the UK Chess Challenge for running the Megafinal events. So much so that some are considering not running a Megafinal this year. Has anybody else got news on this and if so what could be the impact of such actio...
