Re: County Chess 2018-19

I am very sad that I'm having to look at rule changes regarding SCCU stage of this year's competition. It is not surprising that County Chess has a problem in attracting and keeping captains. Also I'm not surprised that in club chess we still have disputes and appeals that are really not in the bes...

Week 2 "An accumulation of mistakes and punishments with goals was giving happiness and confidence to Brighton. Jose Mourinho It took 10 weeks last season for a team to accumulate a 100 point score - but Richard Beach has achieved this for a second consecutive week and, of course, is the top scorer...

Venues

I'm on a mailing list for Wiltshire and see that the Brown Jack Chess Club have been told to vacate the premises by the end of August. In the past my own chess club was actually interrupted in the middle of a vital League match by the landlord of our meeting place to advise (in no uncertain terms) t...

Re: 2019 British

but have you seen the size of the venues when the players championship are held? you need to check them out!! I have not. But again, in context, the prize fund of one Players Championship is in excess of the prize fund of the British Chess Championship - more than double in fact. And there are 22 o...

Re: Premier League Fantasy Football 2018-19

A swift reminder that we are now less than a week away from kick-off - so prospective managers need to get their teams on the pitch by Friday evening to avoid missing Week 1.

Re: British Championship

In case anyone is wondering whether my game today is the first ever all-GM clash as early as round two, I seem to recall a Hodgson Speelman clash from the same round in about the year 2000 - and they weren't even both on 1/1! 2002 at Torquay had Summerscale v Speelman & Ward v McShane in Round Two ...

Re: Who is our next Adams?

I note that Jonah Willow (Nottinghamshire) is now the highest graded U16 & U17 in the current grading list at 217. His recent wins at both Llandudno & Telford should mean that his FIDE rating will exceed 2300 and entitle him to the FIDE master title. Really? His 217 is higher than Borna Derakshani'...

Re: Director of Women's Chess

There were not separate competitions as such for women's teams at Radebeul. They were mixed in with the gender-open teams. However, separate prizes were awarded to women's only teams. In the 65+ competition we only had one all-women team. That was from Mongolia, and they were awarded a prize as Wom...
