Re: Premier League Fantasy Football 2019-20

Week One You've got to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Clint Eastwood (from Dirty Harry). You probably will feel lucky if your name is Lucky Ndinisa whose team Lagos FC opened Week 1 with 142 points including 60 for Triple Captain Raheem Sterling and is top of overall ratings - at least...

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

Charlie, I have no idea why you expect an apology from Carl. That seems to me to be quite beyond the pale. What I would say is I hope you think again and post on the Forum in the future because your posts are often entertaining and informative. But I think that this is certainly enough about the Lo...

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

Some pages back Alex McFarlane gave the reasons why the arbiter forfeited Lorin D'Costa in his game with Charlie Storey. This matter should be closed now. I can see no reason why there is endless debate, especially from people who were not at the tournament and involved. The Laws of Chess were corre...

Re: Premier League Fantasy Football 2019-20

Reminder :- You need to be in it to win it!!

Deadline for Week 1 is 19.00 tomorrow (Friday) - so if you haven't entered yet you need to be in by then to avoid missing a week.

Finally - the transfer deadline is today so all those with Lukaku, Kosielny et al will need to amend their teams!

Premier League Fantasy Football 2019-20

** "These managers all know their onions and cut their cloth accordingly" - Mark Lawrenson. Yes, you too have the opportunity to mix your metaphors with the best of them by joining this year's Premier Chess Fantasy Football League - the biggest and best fantasy League for chess players! Here's the s...

Re: July 2019 grades......

Have only just noticed this. No real surprises to my eye so maybe the tumult of ten yeas ago is well over by now; in terms of relative ordering, at least. It still seems to me that most players are some five to ten points higher than would have been expected more than ten years ago. Presumably that...

Re: Finals 13 July 2019 @ Kettering

Can I thank Mick Norris firstly for updating the stats? Secondly if I may before starting on specifics about central venues may I thank the Director of Home Chess, the Championship Controller and the Arbiters for their sterling work at the finals. Thirdly I'll deal with the previous postings in due ...

Re: Media comments on chess

Not particularly a media comment on chess but a comparison with tennis. First round singles losers at Wimbledon received £45,000 each (so a payment of £5,760,000 in total) - some of the players didn't last an hour and one of these had his £45,000 docked for not trying. One wonders why youngsters are...

Re: Old Chestnut

I can tell you what that is as I refer to it constantly on this forum. It's a lack of volunteers for chess administrative posts. I think there are as many people prepared to captain teams/squads as there always have been. Those volunteers are just going into 4NCL captaincy rather than County team c...

Silly Question - but did anyone connected with chess receive any award in the Queen's Birthday Honours List?

Re: Old Chestnut

Can I say I believe that [women] are not disproportionally reluctant to give up a Saturday to play a county chess match compared to men. You can say it, but it does not appear to be borne out by the facts. We have no idea what the facts are. We can say that there are few women players but unless so...

Re: Old Chestnut

Can I say we have gone off at a tangent from the original Old Chestnut about inclusion of female players. Can the discussion of venues go elsewhere please - I have several things to say (unfortunately) on this subject! I hope that the stats I produced (four women players out of 310+ in the s...
