Re: Lionel Burrell the chess player

The movie is mentioned in Lionel Burrell's biography 'The Waistcoat' that I found in a local library. I could not find it on Amazon after a brief look though the biography said that this movie helped to make Lionel Burrell as Charlie Chaplin who he co-starred with became so famous. I suggest forum ...

Division One 2019-20

After Rounds 5 & 6, Rounds 1 & 2 take place this weekend for the top divisions. No separate thread for Division One yet as discussion as usual has been mostly about Division Three(North). So a timely start to a new thread.

Re: Premier League Fantasy Football 2019-20

Week 27 One Premier League goal all season, and currently enduring a run of 22 consecutive top-flight games and 1,856 minutes without finding the net. Is this star striker in your team? Amuse yourselves by working out just who he is! Most of the teams show a remarkable symmetry - so for example jus...

Re: Premier League Fantasy Football 2019-20

In answer to Thomas's post, several of the top teams are yet to use any of their chips (notably Paul Spiller & Onos Kofi-Ofuafor) so I'm afraid his claim to be the highest placed chipless player has failed. I should have clarified that I meant in the gameweek, not overall :D I hope you're not expec...

Re: Premier League Fantasy Football 2019-20

Week 26 Rather short and late I'm afraid with no changes from last week although David Egginton has shaken off his pursuers for outright fifth. Kevin Williamson in the jet stream with 94 points whilst John Sargant was marooned in the doldrums with 39 points. 1 Wijnaldum Leviosa Sam Herring 64 1561 ...

Re: Lionel Burrell the chess player

Perhaps an examination of the key facts of this thread might assist:- 1) No-one can trace any player/person/actor by the name of Lionel Burrell or indeed a biography of this player. 2) Charlie Chaplin did not speak in a film until 1940 (The Great Dictator) 3) Midnight Express is a film of 1978 - the...

Re: Lionel Burrell the chess player

I wouldn't mind knowing what films this chap was apparently in. Just insert Francis Fields in the Forum search box above and you should be able to work out a possible/probable answer to that query. I tried googling the first sentence of Mr Fields's initial post. The only result of the search was th...

Re: Lionel Burrell the chess player

I wouldn't mind knowing what films this chap was apparently in. There is a record of a George Berrell (sometimes billed as George Burrell) who was a stage actor and appeared in silent films in the 1920s here;- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Berrell - he often appeared in Euston when not in Ho...

Division Two 2019-20

As usual Division Three South, Division Three North and Division Four South command attention on the forum - nothing at all on Division Two; so here's a thread should anyone wish to comment as the season progresses.

Re: UK Pun day

Are non-chess jokes allowed? If so, one of my favourites from Tim Vine: I thought my wife was joking when she said she was going to leave me because of my obsession with The Monkees. And then I saw her face. I'm sure that the moderators will fling us into the "not chess" section if we start a threa...

Re: UK Pun day

Or from Tim Vine

So, I ate this chess set. It was horrible. I took it back to the shop. I said, “This is stale, mate.” He said, “Are you sure?” I said, “Check, mate.”

UK Pun day

Today is UK Pun Day

So culled from the Twitter account:-

So I was telling my friend I hate backgammon. And draughts. He said "Hate chess too?" I said, "Don't even get me started on that high-speed rail project."

Re: Premier League Fantasy Football 2019-20

Week 25 "It was a big effort. It was a difficult game especially in the first half." Jordan Henderson - Liverpool go 22 points clear. We have an unusual situation with four teams tying for fifth spot. There is obviously some sort of tie-break system in force but thankfully we don't need a play-off ...

Re: US Election Chess Set

We will be overwhelmed with this sort of thing from across the Atlantic soon - watch out for the chlorinated roast chicken flavour crisps. Meanwhile I'll stick with my Brexit Chess Set https://brexitchess.myshopify.com/products/brexit-chess-game complete with Nigel Farage and Jacob Rees-Mogg Bishops.
